Bernie Sanders introduces 'Stop BEZOS' bill

Awe, you are just adorable. You don't understand socialism, but pretend to be smart. Very cute.

Well come on brain, how will I ever learn about economics if you don't impart your vast knowledge?

Let's start with your favorite part of the General Theory. Oh wait, I already tried that, you have no fucking idea what John Maynard Keynes "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" is - the single most important economic text of the 20th century.

You wouldn't know an Austrian thought from Chicago school if you were kicked in the balls by Ludwig Von Mises.

In short, you're a fraud and everyone here knows it. You just happened to tell your idiotic lie to a person who teaches introductory economics for the largest University in the world.
So you teach economics for the largest university in the world and can't figure out why deals like Foxconn are bad capitalism. Now that's the funniest thing I've heard today! BRAVO! hahaha

And the alternative being is an empty cow pasture in Wisconsin?

.
Tax cuts maybe? Foxconn should go there because its the best place for them to go, not because government is dictating where they go. You must have a lot more faith in government than me.

How is government dictating where they should go? They made an offer, and Foxconn accepts the offer or refuses it. Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything.

Seen it to many times in America, you build it they will come.

So without the offer they would have gone there? If they went there because of the offer, government is dictating where they go. If they would have gone there without an offer then it's a waste of tax dollars.

No, I think you meant to say "without they offer, they "wouldn't" have gone there."

That is correct, they probably wouldn't have.

For instance, Amazon decided to buy a run down, closed down mall over here. They got a nice abatement offer from the city; actually two cities because they took over two vacant malls. In any case, that's really all they had to offer. We border Lake Erie, and the snow here is unbearable sometimes. There are times when everything is closed down because of snow storms. The streets are impassible.

How can we compete with states like Florida, Texas, the Carolinas, and other preferred climates? We can't. So we need to level the playing field.

Tax abatements do that because we can then compete with better climate states; that and we have fresh water over here.

So Amazon took these malls that were generating 0 dollars. They are building state-of-the-art facilities and providing hundreds of jobs. They still pay taxes, just not as much as other places. However, the employees will be paying local and state taxes; new taxes for everybody.

People here are delighted with the decision. The ramifications for other businesses such as packaging companies, restaurants, transportation, hotels, and other businesses benefit as well.

Nobody is forcing (or dictating) where Amazon should build. It's was still their choice.

What would the bill be based on, total ignorance? Do you actually believe that the IRS knows how much welfare the employees of corporation 'X' are receiving?
The IRS knows where you work and how much welfare you collect, yes.
It has a tax return from each employee, but it doesn't tabulate figures on the employees of any corporation as a whole. Obtaining that information would require a multi-million dollar software project.
Wouldn't it be as simple as something you fill out on your tax return? Yes I work for a company with over 500 employees and this is how much welfare I collected? Doesn't sound that difficult to do.
It's easy to say that the imaginary bridge spanned 10 miles. Building one is another matter.

The employer doesn't collect welfare. He doesn't even know which of his employees is collecting welfare.
The employer would find out from the IRS.
It' currently illegal for the IRS to give out that information.

The IRS hands over personal tax information to employers??? WTF did that start happening?
No, the IRS would hand companies a bill for all the welfare collected by their employees.
The employer would be entitled to an accounting of what they are paying for. That mean the IRS would have to state how much they are being charged for each program that each employee is receiving benefits from.

Furthermore, once the employer knows what each employee is costing him in terms of taxes, then he will make hiring and layoff decisions accordingly. That means poor employees with a lot of children will be the first ones on the layoff list.

This is a fascinating idea. Our biggest economic problem is stagnant wages. Could this be an answer?

Update: September 6, 2018: U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders on Wednesday introduced a bill that would tax corporations with more than 500 employees for the full amount employees receive in government assistance. The bill's title, "Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies Act," or "Stop BEZOS," is an open jab at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Sanders had previously criticized Amazon after a study found that some fulfillment center employees relied on a federal food assistance program. Sanders' criticism drew a heated response from Amazon, which prompted another detailed critique from Sanders' office, one that included testimonials from Amazon employeesabout working conditions.

Climates? Yes you can compete. The market will determine that. If every business wants to be in Texas, it becomes more and more expensive to do business there. The cost of land goes up, the cost of leasing a building goes up.... For many businesses there are natural advantage to other areas. More government influence makes capitalism bad and corrupt. The market should determine these things.

Henry Ford doubled wage in 1920 to the equivalent of today's 100$ an hour, and he became so popular the people wanted him to run for president. to all those billionaires who wanna run for president, why not just double wages?

Your Amazon example is a great reason not to give corporate welfare. First they have billions, they don't need tax dollars. Second it sounds like the location was empty. The market would drastically lower the price of that location the longer it sits empty. I assume you not only gave a handout to Amazon, but also bailed out whoever's bad investment it was? This must have been distribution so there was a limited area Amazon would even consider. They wouldn't put OH distribution in TX now would they?

why should the taxpayers have to subsidize amazon workers when fucking Jeff Bezon is worth 150 billion dollars. hey asshole, you can subsidize your workers on your own!

Actually it was the largest mall in the entire country when it was built. People would come from every state in the union for the experience. Of course this was back in the 70s when I was a teen.

Yes, the longer you leave it sit there, the lower the value which means the lower the tax revenue. That’s why it’s important to give it to somebody before it becomes worthless.

It’s not a matter if Amazon needs the break or not, it’s a matter if we need them to build here or not. We need them much more than they need us. So you make the best offer you can to attract them.

You are a good socialist.

As the value goes down a company will move in without being a moocher. The market works. You are wasting tax dollars.
