The party can nominate whoever they wish. It just will become increasingly impolitic if Sanders overtakes her on the bound delegate count.

Sanders logic is that polls show him beating Trump by a bigger margin than Clinton but I think he would be a gift to any of the GOP candidates. Sanders has avoided any GOP attacks so far and its likely they would portray him as some Commie/Socialist. For Hillary Clinton the attacks have been going on for decades, she's used to it and many voters have already taken that into account.

Don't get me wrong I like Bernie Sanders but think he would make a GOP win more likely. The Primary results have shown that he isn't making much impression with the black and latino population, and in the key swing states this is a crucial demographic.

The last few states were always likely to be good wins for him but I don't see his message resonating sufficiently with those coming up towards the ne. Barring some miracle he's not winning New York or Pennsylvania, Wisconsin looks better for him. But I expect Hillary to stretch her delegate lead after those 3 states.

they are senators and congressmen and governors and ex presidents primarily, I don't need to look it up....and if Bernie was kicking ass in the popular vote, then these suckers know where their own votes come from and have always support the candidate with the most votes in the primary....

Benrnie is a couple of million votes in the negative....so far....

There is plenty of time for them to switch their votes or for those not committed to commit to Bernie, all the way up till the convention....

Bernie needs to show that he can win the popular vote, in a big way, and he has plenty of time....to do this, if he can...

The popular vote total is immaterial. The delegates are apportioned by each state individually.
Using your logic, there would be a national primary. Obviously there is not. Therefore the total popular vote is moot.
