No. That's how the Common Core haters get confused between standards and curriculum. That is a curriculum issue. The standard would be: The student will be able to calculate the area of a geometric figure in one plane.
Why? Because you don't understand it, we should make standards voluntary?
Well, hell! Let's just do away with math altogether because people's parents suck at that too!
Progressive? I learned Algebra in the 5th grade. That would be 1971-72. Know when my kids took Algebra? They took it in 9th grade and that was in the 90s and 00s. Seems a little regressive to me.
