Biden Moves To Pack The USSC Court; Signs EO Forming Commission To Investigate Expanding The Court

If you support not expanding the Supreme Court you should see this as very positive as these commissions never accomplish anything but waste money.

'I'm Not In Favor Of Packing The USSC.'

Surprise, surprise - Joe Biden Lied.

McConnell packed the Court. It is only right that Biden balance the court with a few open minded, honest jurists.
How did McConnel pack the court?

he refused to hold hearings on many of Obama's nominations. Merrick Garland is 1 example.

The court was already “packed”. Biden is unpacking it.

Mandatory retirement age would help. Buh, bye Judge Thomas.

Justice Thomas is the Jackie Robinson of the Supreme Court, with the most impressive percentage of Correct Votes in SCOTUS history, why would you want to get rid of him?

And libs said he didn't have the right stuff.

Clarence Thomas is a fool. He has been radicalized by Trump supporters like his witch of a wife. His latest was his calling for a end to free speech and his socialist suggestion that social media companies should be nationalized. He is violating his charge as a judge by advocating for legislation. I suppoirted hie elevation to the Supreme Court but he has been radicalized.

McConnell packed the Court.

Filling open court seats is not court packing, imbecile. You're just mad that a president you don't like got to make the appointments.

The Republican Senate refused to take up Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland when Scalia died early in 2016. When Ginsburg died a week or so before the election, Republicans rushed the nomination through.

You obviously have no clue what packing the court means, nor do you have a clue what the role of the Senate is when it comes to SC nominees as spelled out in the Constitution.

Your massive ignorance doesn't constitute McConnell packing the court, Dummy.

Biden promised this back in October before the election. What I see as the most promising aspect of the Executive Order is the composition of the commission as spelled out in its Section 2(b):
(b) Members of the Commission shall be distinguished constitutional scholars,
retired members of the Federal judiciary, or other individuals having experience
with and knowledge of the Federal judiciary and the Supreme Court of the
United States (Supreme Court).

The less I see of anybody from the legislative branch appointed to the commission, the better. I feared if it consisted of those in congress, they would resist giving up the power granted to them in the Constitution. My hope is for the commission to recommend a fixed number of Supreme Court justices by way of a Constitutional amendment. I also believe a mandatory retirement age would be a good idea.

The years it takes to get an amendment passed, having to get through the states, reduces the concern for an expanded court. I think the present number of 9 is fine but given what we saw back in 2016 where Senators sat on their ass and the court was down to 8 members, I wouldn't mind seeing it expanded to 11. Or better yet, keep it at 9 and give the Senate only 3 months to accept (or reject) any individual Federal judicial nominee.

This. The court needs to be set up in the constitution or the partisan urge to gain control over it is going to win out eventually. Packing the court should never be an issue and the court needs to be insulated from threats like that as well.

Not a bad idea. Force the vote. That was always my problem with the Garland appointment, at the very least the senate should have had the hearing and been forced to actually vote to reject the nomination.

Do 100 pound healthy females beat the shit out of 200 pound in shape males? So much of our western culture has been radicalized to believe a whole lot of things.
