he makes this statement around 8 minutes into. Maher refers to himself as a "f'n idiot" at 25, maybe he still is one?

Through this discussion, it becomes apparent that Roman society existed during this time as it did due to slavery. Rome depended upon slavery to function and maintain its political, social, and economic stranglehold on the Mediterranean area and beyond.

A Study of Roman Society and Its Dependence on slaves.

Slavers generally went to where it was most profitable & easiest to obtain slaves.
Whites enslaved fellow whites, blacks, Natives, Asians & Arabs.
Blacks enslaved fellow blacks, whites, Natives, Asians & Arabs.
Arabs did the same.
Asians did the same.
Natives did the same.

Basically every race has a history as both slaves & slave holders.
Every human being living today would probably have ancestors that were one or the other.

Well said. Imagine suggesting money wasn't the primary motivation behind slavery.

Jesus...

Bill states the obvious and people are offended by it.

Slavery in the US didn’t start with racism, it was initially a financial system for free labor. But overtime it became racism one raced enslaved, justified because of race.

Yeah, I think we got over that; well, there's still some remnants.....
There's actually more slaves in the world today than at any point in history. That's because of our massive population. Per 1000 people it's not even close to historical times, but overall there are actually more slaves today.

I think it's impossible for slaves to not be dehumanized by most of the people that enslave them. It was always about money; even to the bitter end. The south was worried about the financial hit that would follow the end of slavery.

Read real history. Romans made slaves out of every people they conquered they didn't give a crap what their skin color was. They also gave some of those people from these lands Roman citizenship. I believe the Ancient Greeks did the same.

Every ethnic group in history has had slavery it's not just a White people thing like the loons try to make the historically ignorant believe.

Well damn, I gotta go to work @ 5:00 am. But I'm well compensated.
It sure is nice to have this kind of opportunity in a civilized nation.
A nation teetering on the brink, thanks to Marxist madness.
Good luck! :113:

Agree, it became racialized in America.

What is lost in the telling is that in most historical cases, slavery was beneficial to the slaves. The slaves had no resources, no skills, no home, and in most cases no meaningful family. As slaves they were fed, housed, clothed and taken care of, at least to the extent of being kept alive. The alternative to slavery was a slow, miserable death from starvation.

And as for "reparations," one must consider, several generations on, the relative level of health and prosperity the descendants of slaves maintain. African Americans are worlds better off than their "cousins" who remained in the shit-hole countries of Africa. Those who have prospered here are better off than almost anyone who remained in the ancestral land.

It literally has nothing to do with race.
Europeans found a willing seller for commodities and were willing buyers.
African blacks sold other African Blacks.

Of course all races have been and are being sold.
I know that's an actual inconvenient truth.

Slavery wasn’t always based on race.

We are living in an enlightened age. But most folks in history didn’t live in such an enlightened age.

We, today, especially in the West, recognize the immorality and wrongness of slavery. But it is kind of unrealistic to judge those of the past by the more enlightened modern sensibilities of today.

If today's society is what enlightenment looks like, we might want to do some recaculating.
