One of the sleeper issues surrounding the debate on amnesty for illegal immigrants – an inconvenient one that no proponent of a widespread amnesty wishes to acknowledge – is the devastating effect so-called immigration reform will have on African Americans.

The black unemployment rate is almost 11 percent, far higher than that of any other group profiled by labor statistics. African Americans are disproportionately employed in lower-skilled jobs – the very same jobs immigrants take. As Steven Camarota asked in a recent column, why double immigration when so many people already aren’t working?

The issue isn't just about blacks. Until the root of the issue is dealt with the United States will continue to spiral downward. Yes, there are a few Republicans who are on "our side" but the vast majority are on the Democrats side. They play for the same team.

You can trot out that old canard but you see what you get. No one is trying to hold down the black man, on either side. But this immigration thing is going to do it. So do you agree with more open borders taking even more employment from the black community or not? Maybe the Republicans motives are not based on helping the black man but certainly the end result is the same.

Some LIB political scientist has told Bobo and Co. that they only need a few more Hispanic votes and the LIBs won't need the Black vote anymore. Open the borders. Ignore the Blacks. They share nothing in common. When a Hispanic gets his share of the National pie one thing is certain: He will NEVER willingly give even a crumb to a Black person.

Sorry, I don't believe this. I do believe though they will vote in the fashion they believe will benefit them the most, just like all people vote. What has to happen is that there must be a viable alternative. I don't believe that the Republicans have done a good job of convincing the black community they are that alternative. Maybe this immigration situation will convince some.
