The inescapable point is, however, that the presence of guns does not automatically result in higher murder rates. That is the point.

I think we may need more evidence of this but if we look at things your wat, it kills the lie of democratic cities and cities with large black populations.

Of course, the problem of violence in the cities is larger than any one factor. You need to look at ALL factors. For example, maybe racial tensions are simply lower in Southern cities than in Northern ones.
