BREAKING: At least 10 feared dead from mass shooting in Dayton, OH

Orlando shooter and the Texas one both had backgrounds that should have prevented gun sales.

Don't need more laws or to lose due process for "red flags" but we do need to research this mindset in depth and ensure background checks can access all they should be able to.

This is fucking hilarious. THe National Rampage Association has fought against background checks and closing the gun show loophole for years, did everything they could to undermine the ATF and the work they need to do, and then complain WHEN the inevitable nut slips through the system they've made so weak.

How is it weak, you dumb ass. None of the shooters committed crimes that put them in the system.....

You are such an idiot....you asshats demanded background checks...you got them...you were told they would not stop criminals or mass shooters.....they didn't stop criminals or mass shooters...

Then you demand the next step..."Universal Background Checks" for private sales...sales that do not supply criminals or mass shooters with guns, and which criminals can bypass with straw buyers and mass shooters can bypass because they can actually pass any background check....

So...after universal background checks also fail, you asshats will be back demanding gun registration...another dumb thing that doesn't do anything.........but........it let's you know where the guns are in the hands of normal people, which was the goal all along.

You can already get your hands on guns used in crimes..... the guns you can't touch, yet......are the guns that normal people have that are never used in crimes.....and you want those like the drug addict wants his Crack.......
Universal background checks use the same system OF WHICH is already broken. Why shove more through a flawed system and expect any positive results?

Because they don't care if it works.....they just need universal background checks on the books so that when they fail, they can come back demanding gun registration....
And that is why I am open to listening to solutions that can be linked to past shootings.

To date NO ONE bought a gun from the gun show loophole and used it in a mass shooting. Because of that I am not in favor of changing this rule/law.

It's an emotional "victory" but will shift to something else on next shooting.

Because no system will be 100% perfect. None. So that begs the question: why have any laws at all? People still rape each other. People still murder each other. Human trafficking still goes on. Drunk drivers still drive drunk.

The system may be flawed but at least it catches some, and any law which reduces the potential for harm with causing greater harm is worth considering.

Why do you oppose universal background checks? Make it part of an overall effort to improve background checks. It wouldn’t have stopped most of these shooters however, but who knows how many would be shooters it DID stop?

Or. Restrict the sale of semi automatic weapons.

And that stupid point is brought up by you morons every time...because you want to constrict gun ownership as much as possible, and you have been shown over and over that none of the things you want will do anything to stop gun crime or mass shooters...you say "Well, why have any laws at all...."

We have answers that actually work...but because they don't involve confiscation of guns, or turning normal gun owners into criminals, you don't want anything to do with them....

As to the best solution to 98% of gun crime? Long prison sentences....this is what Japan did to stop their criminals from using guns.....use a gun in Japan for a crime, you get life in prison. Get caught, as a criminal in mere possession of a gun, you get 15 years...in Japan, you will be convicted, you will not be Bonded out in a few days, you do the whole stretch....

But see......that doesn't target normal gun owners...so you aren't interested in the actual solution...

Mass shootings in 2018.... 12. Number killed.....93

Gun murder in 2017...10,982...

So....drying up 98% of the gun murder is more that "not 100%" that you offer...... but you just want to ban guns.

How U.S. Gun Laws Allow Mass Shooters to Slip Through

Mass Shooters can already pass current, Federally mandated background checks...which means they can pass any other background check too....

Criminals bypass current, Federally mandated background checks by using straw buyers...who can pass any background check, or they steal the guns, bypassing any background check again.

The only reason you guys want universal background checks is because you already realize they do nothing to stop criminals or mass shooters.....but it is a necessary step to get what you really want, gun registration...so once you get the power to ban guns, you will have the lists ready to go.....

As to semi-automatic weapons.....that would be 95% of all pistols, rifles and shotguns, including all revolvers.......that's why.....you know it, which is why you asshats went from "Assault weapon," to "semi-automatic rifles." Because if you are allowed to ban semi-auto rifles, you will come back and demand all the other semi-automatic weapons including shotguns, pistols and revolvers......

I’m glad you like Japan’s approach, I do as well:

Japan has almost completely eliminated gun deaths — here's how

If Japanese people want to own a gun, they must attend an all-day class, pass a written test, and achieve at least 95% accuracy during a shooting-range test. Then they have to pass a mental-health evaluation, which takes place at a hospital, and pass a background check, in which the government digs into their criminal record and interviews friends and family. They can only buy shotguns and air rifles — no handguns — and every three years they must retake the class and initial exam.

They have no 2nd Amendment.... you also would have loved the democrat party Literacy Tests that they used to deny Blacks the Right to vote....

Those tests above are unConstitutional here in the states, since they are used to deny a Right to citizens....

And, of course, Japan murdered over 3 million innocent men, women and children during the war...outside of war dead......

Japan’s low gun violence rate is due to a number of factors. You can’t just cherry pick one part out, like stiff sentencing and ignore the rest of it.

Mass shootings in 2018.... 12. Number killed.....93

Gun murder in 2017...10,982...

So....drying up 98% of the gun murder is more that "not 100%" that you offer...... but you just want to ban guns.

And you just blew by the concept that actually locking up criminals would stop gun crime...without needing to bother normal gun owners...

No. I didn’t. Because it is a fallacy to think that alone will solve the problems and with Japan, who you use as an example from your cutnpaste library, there are a whole lot of other laws and regulations that factor in to it but were left out of your source.

Why do you oppose universal background checks? Make it part of an overall effort to improve background checks. It wouldn’t have stopped most of these shooters however, but who knows how many would be shooters it DID stop?

Or. Restrict the sale of semi automatic weapons.

well the point being that most can't. when pressed for specific technical differences between the ones that carry the "LOOK" vs a standard semi-automatic hunting rifle, most don't try to stick to how to define the AR's differences, they just broaden the grab for MOAR GUN CONTROL *OF WHICH* is why gun owners don't trust too many gun regulation conversations.

Universal background checks use the same system OF WHICH is already broken. Why shove more through a flawed system and expect any positive results?
Because no system will be 100% perfect. None. So that begs the question: why have any laws at all? People still rape each other. People still murder each other. Human trafficking still goes on. Drunk drivers still drive drunk.

The system may be flawed but at least it catches some, and any law which reduces the potential for harm with causing greater harm is worth considering.

Because they are irrelevant to criminals, who ignore all of those tests and paperwork.........nothing you listed that the Japanese do to normal citizens to own a gun, stopped the criminals from getting guns...and grenades...and using them.....

The entire point is to actually stop people who break the law, from using guns for crime.....nothing you listed would do that...

What stopped the criminals from using guns for crime? Long Prison sentences.....the only relevant point.

Normal people do not use guns for crime...so licensing them, taxing them, banning guns for them is pointless.....criminals ignore all of that and get their guns illegally.....stopping them is the point, and the only way you do that is punishment.....as we see in Japan.

Sorry......that is a dumb comment......you have bolt action rifles, and semi-auto rifles...you ban semi auto rifles you ban everything except for bolt action rifles, and lever action rifles..........which is the goal...and then, you will come back for those...

A ban on semi-auto rifles, which is what the dumb "assault weapon ban" would be....would also include all pistols, shotguns and revolvers that are not pump action, bolt action or lever action.....

And again, you would be back for those too.....since those rifles, shotguns and pistols can and will be used by mass shooters.......

Cumbria shootings in Britain....Double Barreled shotgun and bolt action rifle.... 13 dead, 11 injured

Russian Polytechnic shooting... tube fed, 5 shot, pump action shotgun...20 killed 40 injured.

So...the over 18 million rifles will be banned by you because 3 people misused them......you will turn the owners of those rifles into felons if they don't turn in a rifle they never used for crime...because 3 people misused them...

That is insane....

This is fucking hilarious. THe National Rampage Association has fought against background checks and closing the gun show loophole for years, did everything they could to undermine the ATF and the work they need to do, and then complain WHEN the inevitable nut slips through the system they've made so weak.

That is the Gun Control Bait and Switch......

They use "Assault Rifle" to stampede the uninformed Americans....when they make the law and pass it we then find out they said "Semi-automatic" Rifle.....and then when Jane citizen is stopped for going 10 miles over the speed limit.....her record is run and we find out she has a 6 shot revolver at home.....which qualifies as a "Semi-automatic" weapon....one shot per pull of the trigger.....and she is arrested.....having done nothing with her gun other than to run afoul of the gun grabber bait and switch.....

Oops. That was a pretty damn quick about turn for you. Did you lose your footing?

Japan’s low gun violence rate is due to a number of factors. You can’t just cherry pick one part out, like stiff sentencing and ignore the rest of it.

Yes....their low crime rate is due to several factors.....they are a police state....they are a society that suffers extreme conformity and cultural shaming.....and for actual criminals, they have a conviction rate of over 95% on all crimes.....

You don't want to recognize that each one of the things you listed...is pointless for actual criminals......before they increased sentences on using guns for crime, the Yakuza freely used guns...and grenades....when they needed to use them.....Yakuza culture tended to be less violent even then, with the focus on money making, not settling personal feuds and Facebook insults.

Nothing you listed that they do to normal citizens for owning guns applied to criminals.....the only thing that worked on actual criminals? A life sentence for using a gun for a crime with a 95% or higher conviction rate.....and a 15 year sentence for mere possession of an illegal gun...

You do that, and you don't need the rest of the dumb crap you want...licensing, registration, fees, taxes, mandatory classes......but that is the point...you don't want crime stopped, that is the least of things you care about.....you just want to punish normal gun owners and you want to prevent normal people from owning guns....

This is the truth about Japan...

Japan: Gun Control and People Control

Japan's low crime rate has almost nothing to do with gun control, and everything to do with people control. Americans, used to their own traditions of freedom, would not accept Japan's system of people controls and gun controls.

Robbery in Japan is about as rare as murder. Japan's annual robbery rate is 1.8 per 100,000 inhabitants; America's is 205.4. Do the gun banners have the argument won when they point to these statistics? No, they don't.

A realistic examination of Japanese culture leads to the conclusion that gun control has little, if anything, to do with Japan's low crime rates. Japan's lack of crime is more the result of the very extensive powers of the Japanese police, and the distinctive relation of the Japanese citizenry to authority. Further, none of the reasons which have made gun control succeed in Japan (in terms of disarming citizens) exist in the U.S.

The Japanese criminal justice system bears more heavily on a suspect than any other system in an industrial democratic nation. One American found this out when he was arrested in Okinawa for possessing marijuana: he was interrogated for days without an attorney, and signed a confession written in Japanese that he could not read. He met his lawyer for the first time at his trial, which took 30 minutes.

Unlike in the United States, where the Miranda rule limits coercive police interrogation techniques, Japanese police and prosecutors may detain a suspect indefinitely until he confesses. (Technically, detentions are only allowed for three days, followed by ten day extensions approved by a judge, but defense attorneys rarely oppose the extension request, for fear of offending the prosecutor.) Bail is denied if it would interfere with interrogation.

Even after interrogation is completed, pretrial detention may continue on a variety of pretexts, such as preventing the defendant from destroying evidence. Criminal defense lawyers are the only people allowed to visit a detained suspect, and those meetings are strictly limited.

Partly as a result of these coercive practices, and partly as a result of the Japanese sense of shame, the confession rate is 95%.

For those few defendants who dare to go to trial, there is no jury. Since judges almost always defer to the prosecutors' judgment, the trial conviction rate for violent crime is 99.5%.
Of those convicted, 98% receive jail time.

In short, once a Japanese suspect is apprehended, the power of the prosecutor makes it very likely the suspect will go to jail. And the power of the policeman makes it quite likely that a criminal will be apprehended.

The police routinely ask "suspicious" characters to show what is in their purse or sack. In effect, the police can search almost anyone, almost anytime, because courts only rarely exclude evidence seized by the police -- even if the police acted illegally.

The most important element of police power, though, is not authority to search, but authority in the community. Like school teachers, Japanese policemen rate high in public esteem, especially in the countryside. Community leaders and role models, the police are trained in calligraphy and Haiku composition. In police per capita, Japan far outranks all other major democracies.

15,000 koban "police boxes" are located throughout the cities. Citizens go to the 24-hour-a-day boxes not only for street directions, but to complain about day-to-day problems, such as noisy neighbors, or to ask advice on how to raise children. Some of the policemen and their families live in the boxes. Police box officers clear 74.6% of all criminal cases cleared. Police box officers also spend time teaching neighborhood youth judo or calligraphy. The officers even hand- write their own newspapers, with information about crime and accidents, "stories about good deeds by children, and opinions of
residents."

The police box system contrasts sharply with the practice in America. Here, most departments adopt a policy of "stranger policing." To prevent corruption, police are frequently rotated from one neighborhood to another. But as federal judge Charles Silberman writes, "the cure is worse than the disease, for officers develop no sense of identification with their beats, hence no emotional stake in improving the quality of life there."

Thus, the U.S. citizenry does not develop a supportive relationship with the police. One poll showed that 60% of police officers believe "it is difficult to persuade people to give patrolmen the information they need."

The Japanese police do not spend all their time in the koban boxes. As the Japanese government puts it: "Home visit is one of the most important duties of officers assigned to police boxes." Making annual visits to each home in their beat, officers keep track of who lives where, and which family member to contact in case of emergency. The police also check on all gun licensees, to make sure no gun has been stolen or misused, that the gun is securely stored, and that the licensees are emotionally stable.

Gun banners might rejoice at a society where the police keep such a sharp eye on citizens' guns. But the price is that the police keep an eye on everything.

Policemen are apt to tell people reading sexually-oriented magazines to read something more worthwhile. Japan's major official year-end police report includes statistics like "Background and Motives for Girls' Sexual Misconduct." In 1985, the police determined that 37.4% of the girls had been seduced, and the rest had had sex "voluntarily." For the volunteers, 19.6% acted "out of curiosity", while for 18.1%, the motive was "liked particular boy." The year-end police report also includes sections on labor demands, and on anti-nuclear or anti-military demonstrations.

yes idiots use the AR-15 likely cause it's the LOOK of menacing. however, there are aftermarket accessories that can make *ANY* gun look like this. it took most of obama's presidency i feels like before the media finally caught onto the FACT that an AR15 is NOT an automatic weapon. they billed it that way and hell, CNN would post pictures of an AR15 with a grenade launcher that was pulsing like a high dollar vibrator. other reporters are out there saying the AR15 hurt their shoulder from the recoil. AR15's DO NOT HAVE a recoil that will hurt anyone.

why would anyone who understands guns even want to talk to people who deliberately mis-represent what the gun is so they can scare up some attention?

if you wonder why the right won't talk to the left on guns, this is why. the left has a BAD habit of saying they just want one thing and then turn around and demand so much more if they succeed in that. see the flag debate that started all the banning of anything related to southern culture. WE JUST WANT THIS ONE FLAG TAKEN DOWN led to so much more obliteration of the souths history.

now when they are coming for guns, they can't even define what they want to do EXCEPT ban them all when pushed for specifics. even now this deep into the conversation no one can define what an AR15 has that a low power ruger 10/22 can also do.

personally i would love to see us ensure the background database has all that it should have. that alone would have stopped at least 2 previous shooters from getting a gun. gun show loophole? to date no one has gotten a gun this way used in a mass shooting. i don't get the focus on that except it SOUNDS EVIL and people can try and snag low hanging fruit.

so for me, our background checks need to be complete and include history that should have been on there but for whatever reason was not. if you get flagged when trying to buy a gun, call this # and find out why and go from there.

anything else is a gun grab and going to cause a lot more pain for us all.

Gun Show Loophole is a quick way to stampede uninformed people......they want universal background checks as a way to get gun registration......and the Gun Show Loophole is the right "Catch Phrase" to lie to uninformed people, so that those uninformed people grant the demands of the left wing gun grabbers..... Just look at anytime you get a casual poster on here who starts talking about he gun show loophole. As soon as you tell them there is no loophole, they have nothing to say and go away....

The use Gun Show Loophole to cause a stampede...to get uninformed people to give them Universal Background checks......then, when those don't stop criminals or mass shooters...which the gun grabbers already understand.....the gun grabbers can then come back and say ''Duh......our Universal Background checks obviously can't work if we don't know who have the guns in the first place...you will now give us universal gun registration...or you want kids to die.....and you are a racist...."

Gun Grabbers want all the guns.....and they won't stop.....we need to draw the line here....

personally i would love to see us ensure the background database has all that it should have. that alone would have stopped at least 2 previous shooters from getting a gun. gun show loophole? to date no one has gotten a gun this way used in a mass shooting. i don't get the focus on that except it SOUNDS EVIL and people can try and snag low hanging fruit.

so for me, our background checks need to be complete and include history that should have been on there but for whatever reason was not. if you get flagged when trying to buy a gun, call this # and find out why and go from there.

anything else is a gun grab and going to cause a lot more pain for us all.

Gun Grabbers want all the guns.....and they won't stop.....we need to draw the line here....
and - it gets very hard to trust the media in reporting all this cause they add shit, like huge suppressors and grenade launchers.

how are people supposed to understand the reality around the very few differences from one gun to another functional wise when a major news agency misrepresents reality in such a fashion?

and of course i can see the pic in my edit screen but it's not showing up in here.
