Try again, in English this time.

■When all federal, state, and local taxes are taken into account, the bottom fifth of households pays about 16 percent of their incomes in taxes, on average. The second-poorest fifth pays about 21 percent.

You're welcome, idjit.

yeah ok, so what does Obama and Democrats do, they add more taxes on you subjects of this country

His first days in office what was his priorities...raising the tax for cigarettes that hurt the POOR more than he (a smoker) who can afford his habit..

dear gawd wake up this party who claim they are for the poor and disadvantaged in this country

The state level revenue burden shouldered by the working poor is somewhat regressive in even the most progressive of states and incredibly regressive in red states. Goes to show what they consider to be a fair tax structure.

And the bottom fifth still need to be subsidized by the rich because they can't afford their fair share.

So a couple who make 20k per year pay $3200 in taxes.......to whom????

And with state and local fees also going sky high to make up for federal aid cuts to states, etc, the percentages for the nonrich, especially the poor, go even higher...Our taxes are regressive if anything...

You almost gotta laugh. The best they can come up with is not taxes but freaking fees. We know that the "bottom 5th" doesn't pay any income tax and food stamps are exempt from taxes so what are the mysterious "fees" that they are forced to pay? Maybe state and local government can do something about the "fees' we all have to pay.

Payroll taxes are more than income taxes under Voodoo now...property, sales tax, etc etc. And the rich aren't paying for a damn thing lol...

Maybe they need a second job. Many rich people have more than one source of income.

It's because poor people spend more of their income on beer, cigarettes, and lottery tickets than middle class people.
The idea is absurd. The most under-taxed segment of society is the bottom 40%. Those people get a free ride because there are more of them and they vote.

"they can't afford" means they have paid "their fair share" or they are an investment in human capital because;

Most of the people who pay neither federal income tax nor payroll taxes are low-income people who are elderly, unable to work due to a serious disability, or students, most of whom subsequently become taxpayers. (In years like the last few, this group also includes a significant number of people who have been unemployed the entire year and cannot find work.)

Ya see how that works? Elderly and seriously disabled people don't have a current "fair share". And we don't want students to pay now. They contribute later.

Seems to me that liberals are the ones who keep raising the taxes -fees if you will- on cigarettes, most of which are consumed by lower income earners.

I'm sure we can get some help for you with getting that plank out of your eye.

That is just shit you made up out of thin air.

No a fair share would be taking last years actual dollars spent by the Federal government, subtract medicare and ss, then dividing it by the population.

When I did it a couple of years ago it came out to be a little over $8k for every man, woman, and child.

So a family of 4 would owe $32k.

Now that's a fair place to start.

you know, since Reagan we have had 4 terms of democratic presidents. if democrats really believed this tax structure was so bad, don't you think they would have changed it? so tell me, why haven't they? and why aren't you all over them for not changing it?
