Based on this story the parents just reported their gun stolen and that it was probably the son and they were worried what he might dol. No clear statement on what he was going to do with the gun.

If you believe that is enough information for them to cancel the event. Well in hindsight it is. Bt based on the parents report it would not be enough to convince Trump to cancel the event.

For starters the SS could have done their job and made sure the venue was absolutely secure. The events of the day clearly demonstrate that wasn't the case.

No, the SS has been doing this sort of thing since 1865. Yep, a long time. they have protocols well established and they weren't followed. Very simple. They new for an hour that there was a suspicious person and they should have taken him into custody for questioning. Certainly not let him get anywhere near that building, with a gun no less. They knew also for several minutes that he was on the roof before he opened fire. Plenty of time to get Trump off the stage.
