Last year, Facebook was forced to admit that after months of pestering its users to switch on two-factor by signing up their phone number, it was also using those phone numbers to target users with ads. But some users are finding out just now that Facebook’s default setting allows everyone — with or without an account — to look up a user profile based off the same phone number previously added to their account.

Facebook won’t let you opt out of its phone number ‘look up’ setting

Isn't that called freedom?

They have become too powerful. That little doofus in a t-shirt has enormous political powerful, because of his enormous wealth. Combine this with a government that is for sale to the highest bidder, and you have a racket the Mafia can only dream of.

Break them up into a thousand pieces.

Capitalism is about winners and losers. Why should we punish the winners for winning?

Winning is turning into "using without permission." That is not really winning, that is fraud.

So sue them if you think there is a case. Don't use government to break them up and squash their freedom to manipulate you..

If everyone who was affected would charge him with invasion of privacy, it may be interesting.

I would imagine that FB would be covered by its user agreement.

Suing involves government.

I agree.

This is going to be a bipartisan piece of big government monopoly breaking. Hopefully we get some regulations on data mining also.

So the Business should be Punished because people who use their product don't understand what they are doing or the technology involved. They should educate themselves. If you buy a dairy cow, shouldn't you know how it operates. And that it is what you're paying for ( you know like it doesn't have testicles). Buyer Beware or be better educated. It's been like that for a very long time. Don't be a sheep and you won't get fleeced!:cow:

But both involve government. You suggested only a breakup would.

Don't use their service face book has been doing this for years it's on reason I don't have an account to much tech is just as bad as no tech. I prefer face to face communication in most of my personal and business matters let's me know when I'm being lied too and who I'm really dealing with. Don't like Social(ist) Media!:flameth:

Nope, I have been led to believe that the business should not be punished by government. Only the free market can determine if their business practices are up to snuff. And they have every right to manipulate you because capitalism is freedom.
