Fewer Americans than forecast filed for unemployment benefits last week, adding to evidence that the labor market is healthy and stable.
Jobless claims dropped by 18,000 to 259,000 in the period ended June 18, a Labor Department report showed Thursday. It was the biggest decrease since the first week of February. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey called for a decline to 270,000.
we need those heady days when the Bush economy was losing 800,000 jobs a month...we miss thatHow ironic that the "unemployment rate" - a number in the past which has been one of the most reliable indicators of the condition of the economy - has been reduced to a humorous distraction, as our stagnant GDP convinces millions that there is no hope of actually finding a job.
The "Obama Worker's Paradise" is now near achievable, as everyone without a job actually gives up looking, and the BLS "unemployment rate" is ZERO!
