Cherry-picking examples of socialist governments failing does not prove the concept is flawed

Capitalism’s greatest inherent flaw is that as decades pass, widening income disparity will inevitably get worse. The rich become richer, and the poor become more poor. The middle class shrinks. The only way to prevent this is with government intervention, i.e. socialism. Capitalism of course isn’t a failure - the US would not be the juggernaut it is now if it weren’t for a private market. However, that does not mean the quality of life for most won’t get worse over time.

Socialism is a very broad term. To simplify the definition, it is a concept that involves the people funding (tax revenue) and owning (utilizing) government services. This is why every nation on earth - including the US - has a socialist backbone. Any service the government provides that’s funded by tax revenue and is utilized by the people is socialism.

The definition of socialism has nothing to do with corrupt leadership in a given government. Venezuela is failing because of the country’s leadership. Socialism’s core definition has nothing to do with a dictatorship government.

Nordic countries are social democratic countries. This means more services apply the the well being of the population. These people have the best quality of life according to international polling. That is something that is diminishing in America. However, that doesn’t mean the concept is the antithesis of capitalism. Socialism can be the framework of a capitalist system. Socialism is just needed to make sure a capitalistic system provides benefit to the well being of the population as a whole.

Socialism is all about Totalitarian Control, bub. No thanks.

Capitalism isn’t the antithesis of socialism you idiot.

It most certainly is, dumb ass. Socialism is the government owning the means of production. That is the very opposite of Capitalism.
That doesn’t mean they can’t be intertwined. That’s the point. God how hard is this? Nordic countries are SOCIAL democratic countries.
Yes, it does. Capitalism is entirely separate from the government, it's voluntary association, government involvement removes the "voluntary" part, preventing Socialism from coexisting with capitalism.

Of course, explaining this to you is a complete and total waste of time, because you don't even know what Socialism IS and giving you citations along with EVERYONE ELSE ON AND OFF YOUR SIDE telling you that you're wrong only causes you to cover your ears and yell "LA LA LA" even louder.

I spelled that out for Abu Afak and he still doesn't get it.
The Problem WAS/IS you were/are a rambling Teenager who could not "spell out" anything, Nor even excerpt your own youtube!

Europe
The United Nations World Happiness Report 2013 shows that the happiest nations are concentrated in Northern Europe, where the Nordic model of social democracy is employed, with Denmark topping the list. This is at times attributed to the Success of the Nordic model in the region.

The Nordic countries ranked HIGHEST on the metrics of real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices,
generosity and freedom from corruption.[228] Indeed, the indicators of Freedom in the World have listed Scandinavian countries as ranking high on indicators such as Press and Economic freedom.

The objectives of the Party of European Socialists, the European Parliament's socialist and social democratic bloc, are now "to pursue international aims in respect of the principles on which the European Union is based, namely principles of freedom, equality, solidarity, democracy, respect of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, and respect for the Rule of Law". As a result, today the rallying cry of the French Revolution—Liberté, égalité, fraternité—is promoted as essential socialist values.[229]..,

Simply referring to something as Socialism or calling it a "model" of Socialism does not make it Socialist. For example, Socialists, in order to disassociate themselves from their failures, referred to Germany as Fascist and USSR as Communist, when in fact both were Socialist. Socialism is the opposite if economic freedom, the fact that what you're claiming as Socialism is near the top of the Index of Economic Freedom shows that you're wrong. You even completely ignored my other reply which was asking you to define what you believe makes a system Socialist, and you ignored it twice, likely because you realized at that moment that you couldn't explain it, as doing so would reveal that they aren't.

Their means of production are not Socially controlled, they have fewer restrictions than the US, which is claimed to be Capitalist.

Whoever made this sign does not know what DEMOCRATIC socialism is. He’s proposing a socialist model to be sure, but it’s the wrong brand.

Very good.

Now learn the difference between social democracy and democratic socialism and you will understand why everyone thinks you're a pinhead.

Yes there is a difference depending on the source. Some sources say they are interchangeable terms. I’ve already defined socialism. Now it’s your turn. What is the difference between the two? Put it in your own words.

Go for it lefties. It's about time we had a real debate over democrat/socialist vs republican/capitalist agendas. Please don't bring up the Scandinavian approach to politics. We support more illegal aliens than the entire population of those cold inhospitable countries combined.

The difference is simple to explain and the terms are not interchangeable.

Social democracy is an attempt to create a more equitable society via government redistribution schemes. It tries to soften the inequality of capitalism, it does not seek to abolish the capitalist system of production.

Democratic socialism seeks to abolish the capitalist system of production. It's just that simple.

Socialism is socialism period. I made investments, I made a profit, I have money. Socialism means take my money and give it to you in some form or way.

Scandinavian socialism only works to the extent that it is practiced in a small, homogenous population with a strong culture of communitarian values that predate the socialist programs. Change the demographics and alter the communitarian values, and it collapses...as we are seeing in Sweden today.

Yeah you’re right on both definitions. Part of the reason why American social democrats use “democratic socialism” is because “social democrat” sounds like you are referring to the Democratic Party. But okay, yes, i advocate for social democratic principles and not democratic socialism.

Nordic countries have lower corporate tax rates than we do, owe their ability to pay for a welfare state to a hard working population, and oil money..... that is all changing as their socialism kills off their natural work ethic.....

Socialism is slavery.....just the slow version where it takes running out of money and work ethic to feel the chain around your neck.

Go for it lefties. It's about time we had a real debate over democrat/socialist vs republican/capitalist agendas. Please don't bring up the Scandinavian approach to politics. We support more illegal aliens than the entire population of those cold inhospitable countries combined.

Scandinavian socialism only works to the extent that it is practiced in a small, homogenous population with a strong culture of communitarian values that predate the socialist programs. Change the demographics and alter the communitarian values, and it collapses...as we are seeing in Sweden today.

This is true, if you look at the population numbers of Denmark, Finland, and Norway you find them ranging somewhere between 5.2 and 5.8 million, with Sweden having more like 8.8 mil. They are small and homogenous, they do not have much in the way of defense spending, and no innovation to speak of. In the simplest of terms, economic growth is population growth, plus productivity growth. Well, these countries are not increasing their population much (except for their refugees), and most of their productivity growth comes from outside their borders. So basically they don't have much economic growth, and all those afore-mentioned refugees are eating a very big hole in their social welfare programs. And not just in Scandinavia either, look across Europe at the socialist democracies and you find them all with floundering economies.

Socialist policies sound great, everybody loves free stuff except for one big problem: it ain't free. All those wonderful socialistic policies they have, somebody's gotta pay for them. And they do, with much higher tax rates. Most of them have a VAT tax of near 25%, and everybody pays it. Try selling that here at home and see how that plays out. Then there's the income and other taxes that they pay on top of that, and there's none of this shit where the bottom 50% or so pay nothing. Nuh-uh, it's just about everybody into the pool. And guess what? Their top corporate tax rates in the Scandinavian countries run between 20-25% cuz they want as much income and investments from foreign sources as they can get.

They don't have a minimum wage. They use school vouchers that allows families to use public funds to finance their child’s education at a private school, including schools run by the dreaded for-profit corporations. Did you know in the last 20 years or so these countries have reduced the size of their federal gov'ts? Smaller gov't. I'll be damned, I didn't know that was a socialist policy. If they're so happy then why are they among the top 12 countries in anti-depressant use? Why are their drug-related deaths increasing? Why is alcoholism also a big problem that is also the rise? How safe are women on the streets after dark these days?

If social democracies are so good, then tell me how good things are in France and Italy? And Spain and Greece? They use socialistic policies, don't they? Cherry picking?

Socialism is great, the leaders become billionaires, the stupid fucks who thought it was a great idea wind up dead or wishing they were

Yes, Billy-E-Baloney is so correct, he is eating his capitalist mommy's food, in her capitalist basement, on her capitalist computer, and he will get back with his socialist rant as soon as he is done-)

Billy Baloney is nothing more than a......PHONY BALONEY!

Those Nordic Countries..... live off the invention and innovation of capitalism..... they live off the welfare money they have because they don't have to provide for their own national defense...we do that for them with our blood and treasure.....and they still can't keep the plates spinning because more and more of them are opting for welfare, not work.
