Chris Kyle, an ex-Navy SEAL who wrote the bestelling book American Sniper about his service in Iraq, was shot and killed at a gun range in Texas, multiple outlets reported Saturday night. A second man was also killed.

According to local TV station KHOU, officials said that Kyle was shot at point-blank range "while helping another soldier who was recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome" at a range near the town of Glen Rose.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Lancaster, Texas police arrested a suspect, 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, after a brief chase.

Kyle had become well-known for his exploits in Iraq, where he deployed four times, set the record for sniper kills at 150, received numerous commendations, and, according to the Stephensville Empire Tribune, was given the nickname "The Devil of Ramadi" by insurgents.

Of course the whole Christian thing comes into play .. you know, Muslims and others being violent and Christianity being the message of peace love and understanding. :eusa_shhh:

I don't really know, but what I do know is I can find no evidence of any mass shootings carried out at gun shows, in gun shops, at firing ranges, at gun clubs or at hunting lodges. Is this because almost everyone in those places is armed or is it just a coincidence? I don't know, but I'm sure the liberal socialist left wingnuts will be able to tell me why this is.

That really is like giving someone with lung cancer another cigarette. Instead of trying to help the poor guy, he literally gave him more of what made him sick - gun violence.
There is nothing violent about shooting at a target range. In fact it can be very relaxing.

In the example of a PTSD subject, traumaized by the pressures of combat, being exposed to guns and gunfire under calm and peaceful recreational circumstances could have a reparative effect, similar to a traumatized rape victim engaging in sexual activities under gradual, passive and affectionate circumstances.

Until more is known about Routh's motive for shooting Kyle there is no point in speculating about it.

Gee, if only there was a "good guy with a gun" at the shooting range this never would have happened.
If there were not enough good guys with guns at a shooting range to keep him safe, how will more guns make us any safer?

It's a miracle that everyone at the gun range didn't end up dead once those guns started killing people.
It is certainly a miracle with all the good guys with guns at the shooting range that the shooter got away unscathed!

How many has Obama killed?

Obama didn't start an illegal war and cause the deaths of thousands of innocent people, did he?

Nobody started an illegal war.
It is a serious violation of International Law to invade and occupy a non-aggressive nation.

Realistically, one cannot seriously expect the disputants -- much less their national electorates -- to wade through numerous legal documents, most of which contain rigorous and not-occasionally tedious reasoning, to find the correct answer. Thus, it seems prudent to proceed directly to the world's most authoritative answer to our pressing question du jour: "Was the Iraq War legal, or illegal, under international law?"

And The World's Most Authoritative Answer Is ... Among the world's foremost experts in the field of international law, the overwhelming jurisprudential consensus is that the Anglo-American invasion, conquest, and occupation of Iraq constitute three phases of one illegal war of aggression.

This is why the World Court at The Hague has indicted George W. Bush in absentia. If he travels abroad and is arrested he will be tried for crimes which could result in his being hanged -- as per Saddam Hussein.

Why didn't all the armed citizens prevent this?

Everyone was armed? Wayne? NRA, where are you? Why didn't the armed citizens take this guy out? Were they all untrained cowards or shocked, or sympathetic to the shooter? wtf?

One guess is a range is a good place to shoot someone. No one will pay attention to the shots.

Kyle was obviously a great sniper - but far from the greatest sniper in history.

Very informative -- and interesting. Thanks for posting it.

You're welcome. I find the brief history in that link about Simo Häyhä, nicknamed ‘The White Death’, with 705 confirmed kills (505 with rifle, 200 with submachine gun), to be absolutely amazing. Plus, he reportedly did all that with iron sights in freezing temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius (which is also -40 degrees Fahrenheit) - in a period of 100 days. Amazing!

seriously? It doesn't matter that he was shooting at our men in the no-fly zone, attempted assasination of our President, and was guilty of bribing UN inspectors.
