i never said i was still religious so i can drop judgements w/o contradicting my lack of faith.this is the part about religion that pretty much drove me away from it. judgements.
life fails. god gave me life. did god fail? i've failed a ton of times in life, even during the times i was a child reading scriptures at the pulpit during summer church camp at my grandparents. who failed? me or religion or god? now, i learn from that failure, get up and move on and try to do better the next time.
is that science or religion i'm talking about? seems the same to me. i always found science and religion to compliment each other, not fight. but you two are in a pissing contest so i'll bow out and go do something useful like see why there are no cupcakes in the vending machine. not sure if god failed me there or science, i just know all i have is a banana and that's just wrong.
WHOA--hold on! You're passing judgment on judgments. But aren't you making a judgment? Are you saying making judgments is wrong? I'm genuinely curious and would like to know.
And you are correct that science and religion are not at odds. I would just like poster to realize he has made science into a faith.
BTW, you are absolutely correct about humans failing. Christianity is the only religion that has the remedy for that.
yes, this can be a tricky subject to talk through cause most people talk with the intent of making sure people understand where they are wrong, not simply to learn about each other. "lord knows" i can be guilty about that. >g<
Sorry, judging is not counter to Christianity. How are we to ascertain the brethren if we don't judge? What does judging have to do with "lack of faith". I mean there is judging to condemn and there is judging RIGHTLY.
Have you read or studied any Scripture since your childhood?
"Judge not lest ye be judged."
?
The verse most misapplied and most likely to be tossed up to Christians by non-Christians. We know, believe me.
Here is the verse IN CONTEXT from Matthew 7. Notice Jesus is saying how you judge others is how you will be judged. He is not saying don't judge at all; he is saying be careful how you judge. Notice how HE judges then in verse 6! Dogs and pigs. Clearly, we are to judge, but judge with right judgment, and mercifully. This is always correct.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Yeah, I've actually had this explained to me before. I'm just fucking with you.
