Guess you never served in the military then, did you? In boot camp, we were issued our uniforms and seabags the first couple of days we were there. Then, a month or so later when I checked my LES (Leave and Earnings Statement), it showed where I had paid for the uniforms I had been issued.

And, while there is a clothing maintenance allowance that is given on the anniversary of someone's enlistment, it doesn't begin to cover the cost of replacing uniforms over a year, especially if you are on sea duty in a dirty job.

As far as "Obamacare"? Nope, sorry, but the medical corps are staffed with enlisted and officer members, with very few civilians. Not even close to Obamacare.
