Trump doubles down: 'Trade wars are good, and easy to win'

"Even if new tariffs on steel and aluminum spark an international trade war, President Donald Trump is confident the United States would come out on top.

"When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win," Trump tweeted Friday morning. "When we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don't trade anymore – we win big. It's easy!""

Apparently Trump doesn't realize how inter-dependent the global economy is or how badly a disruption of trade would hurt both American Consumers and American Businesses. President Twitter must have been absent the day they taught Smoot-Hawley in history class.

In trade wars everybody loses, trade creates wealth.

Trump is right. America has long ignored it is the world's largest market after a long-succession of presidents felt guilty, or at least lax, about it and did not seek a level playing field. Those days are forever gone regardless of political fortunes.

What EXACTLY pissed you snowflakes off this time? Trump attempting to stand up for and protect America or Trump challenging China who has been allowed to unfairly victimize us?

There was a time when America was all but self-sufficient. We made our own steel and aluminum - we made much of what we needed instead of being dependent on this nation's enemies and on those who hate us. The scales are unbalanced...dangerously. I applaud the President for trying to do something about it. So far he has proven himself to be a far better business negotiator than the previous Community Organizer. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

China, China, China...that is all you sheep talk about even after Trump proposes a tariff that will not do shit to China since they are only our 10th largest supplier of steel.

But those evil bastards in Canada and Brazil, now they are going to get what is coming to them! :21::21::21:

One day you zealots are going to discover that economically the US needs the world more than the world needs the US. Sadly you will probably cripple the country before you figure that out.

It is called a 'reset'.

Sometimes, you have to rebreak a bone in order to set it properly.

We need to reign in the global economy and reset it.

What the hell does that mean? The US is part of the world; 6% if its population and about 25% of it's economy and therefore one-quarter of the world's market. Your statement is patently absurd and of someone who incapable of rational thought.
