Jim Crow laws were enacted by Democratic-dominated state legislatures.

All are aware of both parties and who they have evolved into over time, as well as
who "enacted" the laws in the first place.

It is rather pointless to politicize which "party" enacted the Jim Crow laws.

The "seperate but unequal" system in place happened in America. And were enforced in the north as well as the south.

The fact that Jim Crow laws even survived 100 years is a statement about who "America" really was during that era.

It is rather pointless (or ignorant) to blame the Confederacy on something the USA did from their very first existence up until after the Civil War was over. Right?
Put in as a condition of the southern states joining the union
Does rightwinger even know that there was slavery in the North and Union States?
Minimal in border states

Does not excuse creating a nation to keep 40 percent of its people in slavery

Wasn't the USA originally based on slavery?
Like every one of the original colonies had slavery right? I bet you didn't know that. Ignorance is bliss.

This thread really proves that people who hate the Confederacy would also hate the USA, if they knew anything about history. Thanks, y'all for putting your ignorance of American history on display...

Symbols of the confederacy need be take down. Period.

No, they need to be more historically accurate. Next to every statue showing Robert E. Lee astride a horse, looking like the conquering hero, put a monument showing Lee surrendering to Grant.
Grant was a slave owner. Bet you didn't know that. Ignorance is bliss.

Grant had one slave, Lee, many. So Grant was less of a jerk than Lee. So I suppose that Lee was a bigger hero to you than Grant, because Lee had more slaves, n'est-ce pas?

Lee, a lifelong military man owned no slaves having no need of them. He inherited slaves from his wife and freed them considering slavery a moral evil. The blacks should be freed, he felt, as a soon as they became civilized. Sadly, they should, by rights, under that circumstance, be slaves to this very day.

This is not about ignorance of American history. Now if you want to get into a discussion about that, start a thread and I'll be more than happy to discuss it.

Those slaves of Lee were from his father in law, who stipulated in his will that they be freed. The father in law died in 1857, Lee freed them in 1862, because Lee was an honorable man. /sarcasm.

Several Union states kept their slaves when the war started. It was OK for the USA to have slavery, but not the Confederacy.

Not so. But this thread is about the confederacy. If you want to discuss the issue of the US and race then start a tread.

It was quickly abandoned in most states

Does not excuse defending a nation formed to ensure 40 percent of the population remained in bondage

Why to we need monuments honoring a nation with the moral values of Nazi Germany?????.

You mentioned morals... The USA waged war upon civilians of the South. We call that Terrorism now days, and our military is fighting a war against that.

And the USA practiced genocide against the American Indians. Hows that for morals?

We also bombed Dresden in Nazi Germany
Societies that enforce moral atrocities do not deserve to survive

Most of these so called monuments were erected 50 years after the war. Those in charge thought it was a good idea to honor a nation built on human bondage

We no longer choose to honor those people and the statues are being removed.

Times change

Again, ‘confederate’ monuments were created during the late 19th, early 20th Centuries in an effort to intimidate African-Americans seeking their comprehensive civil rights, not to ‘honor’ those who fought in the Civil War.

As such these ‘monuments’ are devoid of merit and their removal from inappropriate venues is warranted.

They honor a cause that is reprehensible

So like when are you Confederacy haters going to start whining about all the money with slave owners on it. Do you have any clues as to which slave owners are on US currency? And none of them were Confederates. Or do you have double standards like it was OK for the USA to have slavery for 89 years. But it was reprehensible for the Confederacy to have slavery for 4 years.

Black people have a fear of old statues. Must be the pigeon shit they're allergic to.

The United States sold out to Southern slave owners as the price of forming a nation. They sold out “all men are created equal” under the assumption that slavery would die out on its own

Then the cotton gin was invented and cotton became king. The cotton industry depended on slave labor for maximum profits

Those statues were erected to “keep blacks in their place”

If you think slavery was only a Southern thing, you need to think again. The Northern States of NY, PA, RI, NJ, MA, CN, and NH all had slavery.

You keep going there .....
But...but ....<sob>
There were slaves in the north too. Dozens of them

Does nothing to negate the south building a nation dedicated to preserving slavery. Four million out of a population of nine million
