This would be a big mistake on his part. Intersex is a specific category of transgender people born with the congenital condition of possessing BOTH male and female sexual organs. What was once called Hermaphrodism. It's not a condition that you can "identify" with any more than having six toes is a condition with which you could identify if you have the requisite number of pedal digits.

A simple X-Ray would confirm his claim and prove, or disprove it on the spot.

Had he thought more about it, he could have simply claimed to identify as "female gender" which, as the definition goes, doesn't require the claimant to possess female DNA.
