My sleep pattern. This morning, I was up at 5:15am and it's now 2:30am the next morning. It'll be about 4am when I fall asleep and up before 8am.

Then it all catches up and I'll have a once in a blue moon good sleep. Most nights are 4 to 5 hours sleep, then sometimes an hour's power nap about tea time.

Brain just never seems to switch off, I just keep on wanting to learn/read a million things, semi retirement is doing my head in, might go back to full time work.

Anyone else have a crap sleep pattern?

Doesn't sound like you are tired when you go to bed. Maybe try long hikes during the day?

Are you overweight? Try Ozyempic. You will sleep like a log.

Yes, because I live with a repeated pain above and behind my eye. It's weird, I almost feel as if I may die anytime soon of a brain aneurysm and it drives me to learn subjects I always wanted to learn.

When you don't receive proper healthcare, this is the result. A massive decrease in quality of life which includes, like yourself, scattered hours of sleep.

I spend my nights listening to rabbis and such because they help me sleep and it reminds me of my purpose. It provides some equilibrium but my lack of sleep and constant head pain is daunting.

I was referred to a neurologist specialist and wouldn't you know it, I left two voice messages with the doctor without a response. This is just me trying to get in for an initial appointment!

Have you tried melatonin or in the crunch, extra strength sleeping pills?

Yup. I usually eat supper around 5 PM, crash in front to the TV by 7PM and go to bed. I usually Wake up at midnight, check the weather and news, and stay up until about 3AM.

Sometimes I log in here 2-3AM and if I'm lucky, I find that IM2 or NewsVine_Mariyam has posted one of their rambling, pedantic, and repetitious lectures about "Racism."

After reading a couple sentences to a paragraph, I'm usually so fucking bored and sleepy that I go back to bed. But by 5AM I'm ready to get up, drive to the little country store up the road, and have a breakfast sandwich and an energy drink.

Then I'm good to go for another day.

It's horrible not to sleep.... I understand you OP

I have heard that taking sleeping pills make you crazy in the mind....like dementia etc....

So

If I can't sleep I just put up with it....and do my best.

I do at times but I find running the air purifier at night helps a lot. It creates a lot of noise that drowns out things like all the gd effing train whistles that otherwise wake me up every couple three hours.

I do the same exact thing. Maybe we are on the computer too much. Too much screen light.

Research:
Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome and Advanced Sleep Phase Syndrome. It will explain everything.
I can call everyone in my family at 4am, and 1/2 of them are just going to bed, and the other half are just getting up.

Sometimes I hate when I wake up one or two hours before my alarm clock goes off, but I guess that it is a good thing because when I see what time it is, I still have more sleep time. :) :) :)

God bless you always!!!

I went into semi-retirement 3 months ago & I am now a carbon copy of what U describe about your current schedule. REALLY hear U on the "power naps". I see I am NOT the only one that can't turn their brain off! Depending on the quality or lack of quality in your formative years U may have been desperate to get a job & get out on your own as fast as possible. Desperation has a way of turning the unfortunate into outright workaholics. Trading time(labor) for $$$$$(security/independence) can become both a crutch & addictive for sure. I am NOT saying the above mentioned fits your situation but I am reasonably sure it would fit a fair amount of folks. Yeah, that trying to get the ole brain down to an idle from 8500 RPM for some of us folks is a LOT more difficult than imagined.

Me, obviously. Well not if you don't know I'm in the EST. Midlife sucks sometimes--well in my case, very late midlife lol

Yeah, I would never do sleeping pills.

Worked all my life, 4 years in a job, then 15 years in another, then self employed for the last 20 years. Joints scream retirement, brain disagrees.
