Do you think we can we improve the economy by allocating resources away from defense? :eusa_whistle:

Exactly the opposite.

How about domestic programs to decrease unemployment and increase demand? You don't think that's a better use for the money, given that defense requires so raw-material intensive?

Not to mention the fact that people could actually use/consume what domestic spending would produce.

The era of the big US Navy is over. Cut the Navy budget in half and see what happens.

The dry season is coming and the forecast calls for lightening storms, so let's trade in the fire truck for a prius because it will make some short-sighted yahoos feel good about themselves.

Domestic spending produces nothing. What does a welfare parasite produce?

Even within the constraints of the current welfare program(which I'm against) you still have an increase in demand. And if you adjust it to match the CCCs, you have an increase in production as well.

The fact is that no fields are plowed by ships or rockets. The fact is that private sector jobs in the defense sector are a luxury that cannot be supported by the anemic asset-based credit-fueled economy birthed by Reagan and spoon-fed into maturity under Clinton.

The fact is that every military pay check comes directly from the private sector economy. There isn't an honest person alive with even the most rudimentary understanding of economics that doesn't admit that the United States has not been able to support its defense system since the 1960s. Most of what has been paid down was paid down at the expense of infrastructure; America's roads and bridges (where we actually live) are neglected to prop up a puppet military looking more like Latin American clowns every year.

If the United States does not start minding its own business in the next few years, get out of Asian hellholes like Iraq, Afghanistan and South Korea as well as European moneysinks like Germany- thereby cutting defense spending across the board, then everything dozens of generations of Americans put blood on the ground to achieve will be lost directly as the result of corporatist shills and international meddlers like Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Junebug Bush who used cold war rhetoric to inflame the stupidest Americans in history in support of crazy-expensive bad military bets.

It is too soon to know if Corporatist Obama is as morally bankrupt as those presidents were. What we have seen is a man too weak to stop the foreign relations and military atrocities of thirty years of filthy god damned scum who preceded him.

There isn't an honest person alive with even the most rudimentary understanding of economics that doesn't admit that the United States has not been able to support its defense system since the 1960s. At least 50% of the cost of national defense since 1964 is on the books today as debt carried forward. Most of what has been paid down was paid down at the expense of infrastructure; America's roads and bridges (where we actually live) are neglected to prop up a puppet military looking more like Latin American clowns every year.

You are commingling two subjects: imperialism/internationalism vs. legitimate national defense; on the one hand. Then on the other hand a jobs oriented tax and regulatory environment vs. the welfare/warfare state that depends on inflation and deficit financing. I think I could support your position if you made a clearer distinction between these things that get commingled in your post.

The two are commingled in my post because they are commingled in actual policy.

Where is ANY US interest in maintaining bases in Germany, for example? US bases in Germany are 100% economic foreign aid to Europe. It is called "legitimate national defense" but is in fact unsupportable imperialism.

It'd be interesting to see where someone with skin in the game, say Kantor or McConnell, would provide some indication how they would break it out.

At any rate there is no question defense has been a drag on the economy since the 1960s. Roads and bridges pay back something tangible. All a 'next generation' ship or jet or tank does is make halfwits feel better.

The temptation is to call you a clueless drive-by neocon asslicker, but generosity spirit impels me to ask if you'd like to flesh your clueless drive-by neocon asslicking comment out a little bit, or simply admit by your silence that you are, well, a cluelss drive-by neocon asslicker.

You were one of those folks up in arms defending Vietnam, Nicaragua and Iraq, no? :eusa_whistle:

If the United States does not start minding its own business .

dear, we are the world's moral police. Without police civilization disappears.

We always have to start in kindergarden with you!! Why is that??

PLease don't forget that Jefferson conceived of America as an empire of liberty. Should we have instead encouraged Sadam's rape rooms and the taliban throwing acid in little girls faces for going to school?

Given that liberals spied for Stalin and gave him the bomb I won't be surprised by your liberal answer.

Thanks for proving you are exactly what I thought. Why don't you take your little 'show' over to the Conspiracy Forum where you can play with the other patients?
