You are right about the fact that our right to keep and bear arms does not come from the 2nd Amendment. That right (the right to keep and bear arms) actually predates the Constitution by more than 100 years. There was no 2nd Amendment (for example) when the founders took up arms against King George and his tyranny. And those founders, Jon Adams, Paul Revere, and the like did not have (or need) a 2nd Amendment to give them their right to keep and bear arms.

The 2nd Amendment doesn't actually say that "you should have a gun" if you are in the militia. And it doesn't limit the right to keep and bear arms to duties within a militia.
