As long as you make no attempt to harm anyone you'd be within your rights. Say a bunch of store owners form an armed picket line to protect their property and livelihoods, technically it's the same, they're within their rights to do so.

This militia does not own the statue, it is not their property and they are not protecting either their property or their livelihoods here. "Technically" it is not at all the same.

In this country, people cry "rights" when they're in the wrong. A lot. Maybe not "legally" wrong, but I know what I think is right and wrong, and what this group of militia did was wrong, imo.

Thank you for pointing that out, Gracie; I hadn't seen that yet. The militia that was there, the New Mexico Civil Guard, is saying they don't know him, or the victim. But the New Mexico Civil Guard was there and it was them, in the military get ups, that were in the video preventing the protesters from taking down the statue. Maybe he just joined the fun. I wonder if the militia members also had guns?

The protestor who has been arrested and charged with shooting a government security officer in Seattle, is a member of Boogaloo, and posted on their website about going to Seattle to shoot cops. Not only is it murder, it is first degree murder - of a police officer. Death Penalty offense.

Also, if someone hits you, and you shoot them, that's not self defense. Self-defence is hitting them back. Shooting them is a crime. Conservatives have this deep seated belief that any sort of "attack" allows you to draw your gun and shoot in self-defense. That's a fallacy. The instances in which you can use a gun to defend yourself are pretty limited, like you are in actual danger of being killed.
