Democrats, Pacifism, and Felons

If you like, we could go back in time to when PC was attacking Woodrow Wilson for being too bellicose a Democrat.

Which I suppose is also immoral, so long as it's a Democrat doing it.

Yeah, that was kind of weird.

Wilson went to war because the military dictatorship of Hindenburg and Ludendorf decided that sinking our ships indiscriminately and conspiring with Mexico to make war on the US were serious enough to warrant intervention.

In the Senate, the resolution passed 82 to 6. The negative votes were cast by Asle J. Gronna, Robert M. LaFollette, Harry Lane, George W. Norris, William J. Stone, and James K. Vardaman. Eight senators did not vote: John H. Bankhead, Nathan Goff, Thomas P. Gore, Henry F. Hollis, Francis G. Newlands, John Walter Smith, Charles S. Thomas, and Benjamin R. Tillman.

In the House the vote on the resolution was 373 to 50, with 9 not voting. The negative votes were cast by 32 Republicans, 16 Democrats, one Prohibitionist, Charles H. Randall, and one Socialist, Meyer London.

Wow. PC is in agreement with the SOCIALIST?

Now, full disclosure here, my grandfather Ludwig fought for Germany in WWI. As wars go, it was kind of bullshit, but not from the American point of view. We gave Germany ample oppurtunities to amend its behavior.

Whether you respect facts or not is not my concern nor in my control, nor should it be.

Actually I haven't engaged in any death penalty debate in this thread or elsewhere; I just saw your post and knew I could easily render it impotent, i.e. the post itself, not the argument, since I wasn't involved.. So there is no such exchange to "pretend never took place". If there were you could simply quote it. But I do envy your powers of imagination.

My only previous posts here were to demonstrate the circular reasoning in your OP, specifically on the specious and slippery concept of "evil".
You walked away from that one -- which is understandable, since the only other course would have been to acknowledge the fallacy, and god knows that was mever gonna happen.

:eusa_whistle:

Was there an apology in that word salad above?

No?

Then get back under the rock you scuttled from.

You actually want an apology for having being proved fallacious??
:): head explodes:: )

Ín that case I will pass along my compliments on your fine brew:

No, I want nothing from you....you had your opportunity to tell the truth, and avoided same.

Now....simply retreat back into the ooze from which you came.

You're slime, and will remain so.

It is interesting how Democrats have come to shun democratic impulse, and now the so-called "conservatives" are keen to excite it.

"One of the first motives to civil society, and which becomes one of its fundamental rules, is, that no man should be judge in his own cause. By this each person has at once divested himself of the first fundamental right of uncovenanted man, that is, to judge for himself, and to assert his own cause. He abdicates all right to be his own governor. He inclusively, in a great measure, abandons the right of self-defence, the first law of nature. Men cannot enjoy the rights of an uncivil and of a civil state together. That he may obtain justice, he gives up his right of determining what it is in points the most essential to him. That he may secure some liberty, he makes a surrender in trust of the whole of it."
-- Edmund Burke; from 'Reflections on the French Revolution.'

Aybody who thinks the DEMS are pacifists isn't paying much attention to reality.

Mostly when a right winger says this, it's either wishful thinking or simple TROLLISM..

After police killings, Huckabee defends clemency for suspect

By Perry Bacon Jr. and Garance Franke-Ruta,December 01, 2009

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee on Tuesday defended his decision to commute the prison sentence years ago of the man who allegedly killed four police officers Sunday near Tacoma, Wash., saying the defendant had received an unfairly harsh sentence because he was young and black.

The comments in a radio interview came a day after Huckabee accepted responsibility for the decision and said "it's not something I'm happy about at this particular moment."

The killings have renewed scrutiny of Huckabee's pardon record, and some prominent conservatives say the episode could be damaging to his candidacy if Huckabee decides to run for president in 2012. Though one of the Republican Party's most popular figures, Huckabee has been dogged by questions over the more than 1,000 commutations and pardons he issued -- more than his three predecessors combined -- during his 10-year tenure.

Did you read the OP?

Pat Brown....paroled 377 convicted killers.

So....what is the appropriate term for Democrat/Liberal elected officials who refuse to punish serial killers like Paul Runge?

Not pacifists?

What's the correct term?

What's the correct term?

Arkansas has only about a tenth the population of California, yet Huckabee (whom I personally kind of like) commutted three times as many people as Pat Brown did.

Runge is being punished. He will spend the rest of his life in prison, and frankly, being a kid killer in general population is a lot worse than being one on death row.

IL abolished the Death Penalty because they couldn't run it properly. They were releasing more people than they were executing, because the system was so flawed.

I hear Liberals offer that feeble defense of their inability to actually deal correctly with evil...
If life in prison is worse than the death penalty, how come so many death penalty nominees keep filing to have it commuted to life in prison?

So very glad you posted that.

I've both written and implied that there is a sickness as major component of Liberalism....

...but not until you posted that those who release murderers onto the innocent and unsuspecting public are "Humans who do the right thing"...

...was there actual eye-witness testimony in support of my thesis.

The 'Catch 22' is that your testimony may be tossed due to your obvious mental incapacity.

I'd offer you a rep, but you'd probably be more desirous of a urinal cake.

Hey PC, if you right wing authoritarians believe people are basically evil, WHY do you believe cops, DA's and judges are the good guys? And why do you fawn all over CEO's and 'captains of industry'?

I always knew you didn't understand the reason for the American system of checks and balances!

'Else you wouldn't be a supporter of the Imperial Presidencies of FDR and Obama!

Award For Drone Pilots May Be The Most Ridiculous Thing The Pentagon Could Do
Paul Szoldra | Feb. 15, 2013, 4:23 PM | 7,430 | 26

The new Distinguished Warfare Medal signals two things — the drones are here to stay, and sitting in an easy chair and pushing a button is quite literally valued above the battlefield valor of military heroes.

Mainly for drone operators and personnel who initiate cyber attacks against enemy networks, the new medal will be awarded to servicemembers that demonstrate "extraordinary achievement" related to military operations after 9/11, according to an official memo. In the ranking of awards, the DWM will be above a Bronze Star, but lower than a Silver Star — the nation's third-highest award.
