Beijing chokes on off-the-charts air pollution as thick smog settles over northern China

In terms of health impacts, the air quality in Beijing and other parts of northeast China is off the charts. On Monday, the air quality index measured at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing reached a staggering 611 for small particulate matter. In the U.S., the EPA considers an index over 100 to be unhealthy. At an index over 300, the air quality “would trigger a heath warning of emergency conditions,” reads airnow.gov. “The entire population is more likely to be affected.”

Is their CO2 the problem?

Yes. They need to fix their air pollution like America did.

Pollution has nothing to do with Global Warming or "deniers". Pollution makes me sick. GW nutjobs amuse me..

If conservatives had their way (the way of their pay masters, and sky pixie for that matter) our air would be like Beijing's.

Oh really? Because we had six years of Republican majority under the Bush administration and not a single American city turned into Beijing. Any other bullshit you'd like throw out and further embarrass yourself with?

Dillo had it right. China needs to fix their air pollution problems. They know it and they're working on it, but they've allowed it to get very bad. Similar in many ways to the way agw deniers in this country have prevented action on CO2 emissions. When you think that we've got all the time in the world and we can put it off and put it off and put it off... think of the skies of Beijing.

That's more than hydrocarbons, nit wit.

I must give Dot some props here. He's one of the few people who know how the saying actually goes.

He said "Walk the Walk", which is correct. It drives me nuts when someone says "If you are going to Talk the Talk, you gotta be able to Walk the Talk."

It isn't "Walk the Talk" it's "Walk the Walk." like Dot said.

Who denies that car pollution is bad?

Leaded gas would still be being used if Republicorp had their way. Which Rebub-voter on this board would disobey Fox and NOT want to put an "Out to Lunch" sign up at the EPA? (same goes for Dept's of Labor and what's the third one? :p [maybe The Rabbi can help me out lol (Perry supporter that one)]. That was a rhetorical question.

Those in control give industry a free hand because they're trying to catch up with the rest of the industrialized world. It's a good testament to the risks of unchecked capitalism. Now THERE'S a religion for you. All bow down to the mighty dollar.

Why would they want to catch up? Isn't a poor and short life span more spiritual?

It's a good testament to the risks of unchecked capitalism.

Hmmmm....Chinese Commies decided it was worth it, that's weird.

Their pollution problem isn't CO2. Neither was ours.

Should China waste any money reducing CO2 with their smog issues?

Who denies that car pollution is bad?

It's that conservative straw man they built, he loves pollution.

Almost no one.

That's correct. But it doesn't stop the GW faithful from purposely confusing those pollution issues with GWarming.
Can't blame them.. It's a concerted effort by this Admin to PURPOSELY confuse the public about the difference. And apparently -- that tactic worked quickly and completely on their most dedicated suck-ups.. Didn't it Dottie?

Would have been a GREAT THREAD if Dottie didn't bait it with the "denier" shit and the implications of GW..
Might have been an unprecedented BIPARTISIAN agreement in the Enviro forum..
