DeSantis refusing to take calls

Mayorkas was not specific about how much additional money the agency may need, but his remarks on Air Force One underscored concerns voiced by President Joe Biden and some lawmakers earlier this week that Congress may need to pass a supplemental spending bill this fall to help states with recovery efforts.
He was saying that funds were running out and it was a concern to him. He also mentions additional money would be needed.
As of Sunday, FEMA says it has provided more than $137 million in assistance to six states in the southeast,

So congress needs to pass a spending bill to address this
If the government is out of money then yeah it is a problem

Yeah Trump and republicans are making it political

Trump claims they are only offering 750 dollars but this is misinformation on his part.

The $750 Trump refers to is what’s called Serious Needs Assistance, an initial direct relief payment intended to help cover emergency supplies like food, water, baby formula and other basics.

Problem is believing everything Trump says

The money used in the aftermath of Helene and other major disasters is not part of FEMA’s operating budget, but instead comes from the Disaster Relief Fund, which is appropriated by Congress.

So it is just a matter of Congress providing more funds to FEMA

unless some believe the US is out of money

The way it goes is the initial relief is what is available in the Fund for emergencies and initial responses.

Once that gets used up then more initial funds will have to come from congress.

IF the US government is out of money , well yeah then there is a problem

The problem is in an election year and those making false statements for political purposes
They should get much more in 'serious needs assistance' $750 is not enough to cover food, lodging, etc. until FEMA gets around to actually helping. In my area, we had a wild fire and FEMA didn't get around to actually helping for 2 years. Samaritan's Purse did more actually.

DeSantis was asked about the Harris phone call issue earlier tonight.

He said she never bothered to call in any of the other hurricanes there since she's been VP and said she isn't even in the chain of command, he acknowledged talking to the man in charge, Biden.

If they manage to get to a computer, it decides if they get the $750 or not. The victims do not have power. The roads to FEMA are mostly impassible. Victims have been at gas stations calling Fema and told no they do not get the $750 as it is applied to housing. They have no way to get help to assess their lost house.

care to provide a source as computers, telephones are usually down as well as other services. during and afterwards of a storm.

Roads may even be blocked and I have been thru a couple of storms.

That why they have FEMA relief teams who make visits and try to provide assistance after a storm by going out into devastated areas.
The money is available and teams have been deployed. IF more money or help is needed then Congress has to appropriate it as they control the money.

Elon Musk put Star links to service computers.

Still the issue is over $750 per victim and they report they can't get it.

FEMA gets the money from Congress.

Its what Congress appropriates that is the issue

the 750 is what congressed approval for the initial response.

Additional funds may be available but like I said Congress has to approve it. FEMA gets its money from congress.

I am sure a lot of people would wish they provide more money but it is what congress has approved.

Discretionary funding for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 will expire on September 30, and Congress has so far enacted zero of the 12 full-year appropriations bills. This deadline puts pressure on lawmakers to come to agreements on budget allocations for various government programs and agencies. Without a new funding deal, the government could face a shutdown, impacting essential services and federal employees.

The widespread devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene is upping the pressure on lawmakers for a looming end-of-year fight over disaster relief. Congress must allocate funds to support recovery efforts in affected regions and provide assistance to those who have lost homes, businesses, and livelihoods.

Republicans control congress since the beginning of the year.

Yeah if you have a computer then it might work.

Yet how well does star link work in rural areas? How many older generation people have computers

Star link probably works well in well populated areas. then it becomes a matter if they have a computer.

I live in Idaho so questions like that are not known to me. And you don't know them either or you never would ask me.

Let's check with FEMA on what they do.

Yeah you-tube is a great source . Why don't u use their website (FEMA) instead of you tube. Just someone telling you what you want to hear.

FEMA has an operating budget and a disaster relief fund. The fund gets replenished every year by Congress and is used to pay for recovery from hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and other disasters. FEMA also pays for rebuilding from past disasters and for projects designed to protect communities against future calamity.

Congress recently replenished the fund with $20 billion — the same amount FEMA got last year. About $8 billion of that is set aside for recovery from previous storms and mitigation projects.

Also understand that the US has been hit by a number of hurricane in the last few months.

Forecasters predicted an abnormally active Atlantic hurricane season in 2024, estimating as many as 24 named storms forming from June through November. Hurricane Beryl already emerged in July as the earliest category 5 storm on record.

so it has been a highly active year.

If you lived in North Carolina where the victims mostly are, would you be content with FEMA given who runs that place?

From Harris and Biden about the next hurricane.

So when the next response isn't what you had hoped, you know where the blame lies.

I wouldn't take a call from that worthless idiot Kamala either. DeSantis already said he's in direct contact with Joe Biden.

When Congress was debating a short-term government funding resolution last month, Democrats pushed for the bill to include billions in additional disaster-relief funding. A cohort of far-right conservatives favored a stripped-down resolution that didn’t include the extra disaster-relief money — and ultimately got their way.

The approved measure did, however, extend the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s funding through the end of the year; it just did not infuse FEMA — which is already operating at a deficit — with any additional funding in the heart of hurricane season. “The right-wingers here, the MAGA crowd, even after disasters happen, they have opposed disaster aid for communities in need,” Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) told Politico after the stop-gap bill passed.

The concessions still weren’t enough for the nearly 100 Republicans in the House and Senate who voted against the resolution that passed — and the $20 billion funding base it allocated to FEMA as Hurricane Helene bore down on the East Coast. Many of those Republicans represent Florida, which is now bracing for Hurricane Milton. Reps. Aaron Bean, Gus Bilirakis, Kat Cammack, Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Laurel Lee, Anna Paulina Luna, Cory Mills, Bill Posey, Mike Waltz, and Daniel Webster all voted against the bill in the House.

Some of the Republicans who voted against funding FEMA are now calling for more money.

As usual you post only part of the story from one of your liberal Democrat talking point places. Congressman Tim Burchett explained the part you completely left out of your little spiel.....

“The continuing resolutions in September had many irresponsible spending policies I couldn’t support in good conscience. Congress allocated $20 billion in FEMA funds last year, but the Biden administration used over $1 billion of it on illegal immigrants instead of preparing to help Americans in crisis. I've been staying in contact with FEMA and TEMA about their recovery efforts in East Tennessee and working to help however I can, and there are also many private corporations and charities that are stepping up to get the job done.”
“Senator Blackburn supports hurricane relief and will fight to ensure Tennesseans receive all federal assistance necessary to rebuild. Senator Blackburn does not support a reckless spending spree that does nothing to reduce our deficit and funds flying illegals into our country.”
“There was no supplemental funding for FEMA in the September appropriations bill. In fact, one of the reasons Senator Hagerty opposed the bill was because it included FEMA money for hotels for illegal aliens instead of addressing the crises facing the American people.

It appears there were some good reasons NOT to pass that pork barrel.
