Dissecting John Stossel's Anti-Communist Lies

They nationalized our assets and then we stopped buying their sugar.

Like I said.
The colonizer is complaining about "nationalized assets". The nerve. As if enough wealth hadn't already been expropriated by the big brother of the north. My great-grandfather and grandfather were constantly being sued by American corporations claiming that parts of his lands that were bordering theirs weren't being used, and hence legally belonged to them because the government (their puppet crony) had passed a law that all privately owned lands of a certain size have to be tilled and productive or have a certain amount of head of cattle grazing on it per hectare. A significant % of my family's lands were productive, but at every opportunity, American corporations were there trying to take people's lands.

Much of the farm and ranch land belonged to American corporations. Most of the nation's wealth was in the hands of the United States.

Here Michael Parenti speaks about how the United States and other Western powers exploited and continue to exploit, the developing world:

Todd justifies destroying a nation's economy and starving children, reducing them to dust economically and otherwise because sixty years ago the people took back control of their nation's resources. That's the mentality of capitalist imperialists.

How'd those national assets do under Castro?

Can they even grow sugar anymore? LOL!

Because Cuba is in the shadow of a capitalist-run empire that is imposing economic sanctions, not to speak of the constant threats of war. Cuba was actually invaded by an American-funded, trained, and armed force in 1961, i.e. the bay of pigs invasion. The latest threats of war by the US government were about a year and a half ago during the Cuban protests. All of the obstacles created by what amounts to an empire are conveniently ignored. That's why you don't have the ideological luxury of appealing to any failures of a developing nation's attempt to implement socialism when that nation is being embargoed and constantly threatened with war, by a powerful world hegemon and bully-empire.

It's awful! They can trade with every other country, but that wouldn't stop the Castro's from stealing billions, would it?

Now why is their sugar production crashing? Can't buy fertilizer? No fuel for the harvest? LOL!

You're conveniently ignoring the plethora of barriers forced on Cuba by the United States, affecting every facet of its economy and development.

The Resident Coordinator for the Operational Activities for Development of the United Nations System reported in the UN Secretary-General’s 2008 report on the impact of the US embargo:

“Goods, services or technologies produced by the United States or covered by United States patents or containing any element produced or patented by the United States are not available to Cuba. This includes medicines, medical equipment and other products.”

Source: https://www.amnesty.org/en/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/amr250072009en.pdf

The American-led sanctions contain provisions for its enforcement outside the USA, resulting in severe limitations to Cuba’s access to an international supply of medicines, medical equipment, and many other products. Cuba is heavily constrained economically and under the specter of war, as was shown less than two years ago during the Cuban protests when members of our congress were threatening to invade Cuba.

If the sanctions are worthless and the problem in Cuba is socialism, then lift the sanctions. Why continue imposing worthless sanctions that supposedly aren't doing anything to Cuba? Isn't the problem socialism? You're for the embargo because you and your buddies know that if Cuba wasn't sabotaged by the United States it would flourish economically. Your argument that the problem is socialism would collapse and you know it. The only way capitalism and its apologists have an argument or ideological club to hit socialism over the head with is when socialism is being embargoed, bombed, invaded, occupied..etc.

"Oh loook how bad socialism is. Seee, loook how baaaad, loooook seeeee, uuuuuuu loook"

Pointing your crooked feculent finger at socialism, from your imaginary high ground.

Many capitalist-run countries around the world are completely impoverished, to an extent even beyond Cuba and other embargoed socialist countries. Haiti, Liberia, and even India is a disaster zone when it comes to inequality and poverty. El Salvador, Honduras..etc. A long list of capitalist-run countries are poor and failing. These countries aren't even sanctioned, embargoed, or being threatened by the world's superpower and grand bully and they're still poor and failing. Here in America capitalism fails every few years and needs to be bailed out by the American public, i.e. the working-class.

Socialism for the rich and pick yourself up by your bootstraps capitalism for the average Joe American.

I haven't seen a reply yet from the usual suspects to my question regarding the gates test. Remove all barriers between the US and every communist nation in the world. Which way do the people go, into or out of the US?

North Korean defectors exposed as liars:

The above videos show people even risking their lives to return to North Korea. The grass wasn't greener in the South. North Korean defectors that have been used by the West to demonize North Korea have been exposed as liars. Practically all of them spew a bunch of lies, at best half-truths and exaggerations.

But again, for the 56th time on this thread I repeat..The sanctions, embargoes, the threats of war, the actual wars, all of that has to be factored in to your criticism or else you're being dishonest and unfair. Is your critique fair? Just? No. You have to factor in all of the obstacles imposed by the world's hegemonic superpower, namely the US and its cronies. Again, you don't have the ideological luxury to appeal to the difficulties that a developing socialist country might be experiencing when the world's capitalist empire and superpower is embargoing and threatening that socialist country with war.

It's like me creating the conditions for you to only fight in the boxing ring with one hand tied behind your back, wearing an eye patch. Then when you lose the fight, I point at you while you're down knocked out on the canvas, "see he's not a good fighter". "Oh look that socialist country is in trouble economically, it's all socialism's fault. It's just socialism". Yeah right, just conveniently forget to mention the embargo and the constant threat of sabotage and war by the US and its allies.

Yes, barriers. If only they had other countries they could trade with, maybe they'd be able to still grow sugar. What's up with that? Only commies could fuck up sugar in cuba and oil in Venezuela.

Bunch of fucking morons.

If they were in charge of the desert, they'd run out of sand (h/t RR)

If the sanctions are worthless and the problem in Cuba is socialism, then lift the sanctions.

Cuban socialism is worthless.

You're for the embargo because you and your buddies know that if Cuba wasn't sabotaged by the United States it would flourish economically.

You mean it would flourish for 5 minutes until the commies crack down again.
As they've done countless times in the past.

Are they gusanos?

So how many South Koreans are eager to move to North Korea?

Interesting that you took my example of the US and thought I meant South Korea, but oh well. Now, do people risk their lives trying to ENTER North Korea or to LEAVE it?

Also, why is it that communist countries only fail (in your opinion) when they don't have access to the riches of Capitalism? Why do you think that is?

Capitalism is defined as a system of production that depends on the exploitation of wage labor to produce products for a profit. The wage labor is also the paying consumer and market. The world today is mostly comprised of capitalist-run countries and economies, hence socialist countries must participate in markets dominated by capitalists when buying and selling products. A nation buying and selling in a market doesn't render it capitalist, especially when that country has a centrally planned economy and its means of production is publicly owned.

More, if there is a world superpower that is ruled by capitalists, that is imposing an economic embargo upon a socialist nation, prohibiting it from purchasing and importing needed materials and products, including barring it from using major banks and benefiting from credit lines, among other financial tools and instruments common to international commerce, then that socialist country is going to suffer financially and otherwise. You can deny that, but that's clear to most reasonable people who examine the issue.

I showed in the first video, how a person was murdered by South Korean troops stationed at the DMZ, when the victim tried to cross the river, in an attempt to return to North Korea.

That's the commie definition.

What's the real definition?

hence socialist countries must participate in markets dominated by capitalists when buying and selling products.

And we all know that socialist countries aren't very good at markets.

including barring it from using major banks and benefiting from credit lines,

Why do socialists need access to capitalist banks and credit lines?

I was asked to give examples of people in South Korea trying to get into North Korea, and I provided a few examples. Again, your question is really irrelevant because as I repeatedly remind you. You don't have the ideological luxury to point at the difficulties found in socialist countries when those nations are being sabotaged, embargoed, and threatened with war by a capitalist-run superpower like the US.

Capitalist countries are sabotaged and threatened by commies all the time.
We seem to do ok w/o trade with commie shitholes, why don't they do ok w/o trade with us?

And, of course, that has nothing to do with the communist countries vowing to bury the western Capitalist countries. No, not at all. Maybe give up the war rhetoric and the overblown promises to destroy the Capitalist countries and things might be a little different. Guess we'll never know, though, because they won't ever back down.

My definition of capitalism is accurate because wage labor is the foundation of capitalist production and profits. The capitalists need wage labor in order to have a market to sell their products to paying consumers who earn a wage. Take the wage element out of the equation and capitalism collapses, due to a lack of paying consumers and a market.

We are in a world currently dominated by markets and capitalists, hence socialists have to deal with markets as buyers or sellers.

Because the world's financial system is currently dominated by Western capitalist-run banks and systems of finance. If a socialist nation isn't an autarky, then it has to interact with markets, until it can produce everything without them.

The embargoes and threats of war by the United Statesd, a world empire and hegemon, makes it incredibly difficult for a developing nation to survive. Despite of all of the attempts by the US to destroy it, socialist countries still survive.

Labor is the foundation of production under communism too. It just isn't as successful, because communism as an economic system is really bad at producing anything. Except misery.

We are in a world currently dominated by markets and capitalists,

Yes. Because the communist system collapsed.

No decent commie-run banks? Weird.

So, they're Capitalists with really cool parades ...
