It's interesting to look at the stats for prisoners, murders and so on, and to see what's not there too.
You have age, race, ethnicty, crime committed, but there's nothing about whether someone was born into poverty.

The biggest problem is that statistics are almost useless at showing the link between poverty and crime, firstly because poverty doesn't always just cause crime, there are plenty of different ways that poverty can manifest itself.

Like for example poverty in South Africa with a murder rate of 31 and poverty in China with a murder rate of 1.

In a sense history plays a part, crime breeds crime within poverty.
