He knew exactly what emotions to tap into (anger, revenge) and exploit those emotions in his customers in order to reel them in and get the sale. He knew that people will "conveniently forget" or even backwards rationalize when he doesn't come through on his promises, which is why he knew that it wasn't actually important that he follows through on his word. It was all about getting the sale for him, and now the deal is done and that's all that matters to Trump.
