Do liberals ever wonder why our Founders were 100% opposed to big government even....

No it wasn't. The whole point of the Constitution was to replace the failure of the limited government embodied by the Articles of Confederation.

That's what's wrong with liberals. They have not got a clue as to what the Constitution means. This is the fault of a failure to educate the people.

Please be so good as to explain EXACTLY how NYcarbineer's post is incorrect.

No, I don't mean one of your brainless opinions. I mean FACT.

Here is the difference between the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.

Do you understand how they were different? Which one expands government? Which one plots the welfare state and a mentality of entitlement?

Yes, I do. Do you think that the FF would have approved of the PA, DOMA, NDAA, and the expansion of government that has happened through most of the previous Administrations?

dear, the entire point of their Constitution was to maintain very very limited government!!

No it wasn't. The whole point of the Constitution was to replace the failure of the limited government embodied by the Articles of Confederation.
You believe that, don't you?
Of course then you do not acknowledge that the US Constitution is a limiting document.

If we had men like the founding fathers running the country we would never have had DOMA, the PA or NDAA. They dealt with it in other ways. We would never have considered DOMA for instance. Local boys would deal with the town homosexual. Likely it would not be by carefully considering their right to marry.

Like it or not, the founding fathers were screaming liberals who left idiots like you behind.

If YOUR party had been in charge, we would still be speaking with a British accent and dithering about whether or not to allow rum on board.
the founding fathers rebelled against an over reaching totalitarian gov and high taxes !! thats the truth weather you like it or not .

dear dumb liberal, Articles were for very very tiny government;Constitution was for very tiny government!!

-14)The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.-Jefferson

15) the government which governs best, governs least- Jefferson

Jefferson was only one side of the argument.

too stupid!!! and 100% liberals. Jefferson defeated the federalists as soon as he got wind of their treasonous nature and defeated them in what he called the Second American Revolution. They we never heard from again until communist inspired New Deal

even before they saw it in the form of Nazism and liberal communism??

There were two schools of thought at the time that our government was founded:

"I own I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive."
-- Thomas Jefferson; from letter to James Madison (December 20, 1787)

and

"The Men who oppose a strong & energetic government are, in my opinion, narrow minded politicians"
-- George Washington; from letter to Alexander Hamilton (July 10, 1787)

If you want to know what Jefferson considered the legitimate objects of government:

..."the great mass of the articles on which impost is paid are foreign luxuries, purchased by those only who are rich enough to afford themselves the use of them. Their patriotism would certainly prefer its continuance and application to the great purposes of the public education, roads, rivers, canals, and such other objects of public improvement"

"Were armies to be raised whenever a speck of war is visible in our horizon, we never should have been without them. Our resources would have been exhausted on dangers which have never happened, instead of being reserved for what is really to take place"

Quite presciently, Madison summed up the conservative view of wanting a weak central government when he said that the smaller a government is, such as a state compared to the federal government,

the more likely the opportunity for individual's rights to violated, or taken away, because the smaller state is more likely to have a concentrated majority of likeminded people who can impose their will on a minority.

Conservatives generally want state's rights for the purpose of letting individual states deny rights,

not expand them.

No actually we heard from them quite emphatically in the 1860's.

I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of Government but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered, and believe farther that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in Despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic Government, being incapable of any other.

Benjamin Franklin

We have reached that day.

even before they saw it in the form of Nazism and liberal communism??

Nope. And they do not care either.
As far as the typical lib is concerned, the Founding Fathers were nuts. Just a bunch of Bible thumping wackos.
Libs despise the Founders because libs think the biggest mistake the Founders made was writing a Constitution.

Libs despise the founders....? Do you make this stuff up or do hear it on radio?
I would venture to guess that you haven't met too many liberals in your life. You must be listening to the radio know nothings. By the way, tell me the conservative administration that has honored the constitution. Remember, only Congress can declare war.

The religious fervor that conservatives reserve (selectively) for some dead guys from the 18th century is borderline creepy.

it true liberals hate the idea of America, its Founders, and the Constitution. It is no surprise they spied for Stalin and gave him the bomb.

Big government did not exist in that day. What they wanted was more control at the state level and less federal power. State and local governments were smaller then than they are now, not just the federal government. The trappings/entitlements of what Republicans call 'big government' did even exist in their minds. They had no inkling of many of the changes that would take place in American society. Lincoln did a lot to consolidate federal power over the states, but 'big government' did not really occur until the modern age with the creation of several new federal government agencies and ever increasing descretionary spending.
