Do liberals ever wonder why our Founders were 100% opposed to big government even....

too stupid!!!well please tell what alive guys have a better idea than the guys who created the greatest country in human history by far!!

Well said. Very well said. Now....please try English.

too stupid!!!well please tell us what alive guys have a better idea than the dead guys who created the greatest country in human history by far!! And don't forget, Marx is dead too!!

Yes. That is much better. Very clear.

The trappings/entitlements of what Republicans call 'big government' did even exist in their minds.

too stupid but 100% liberal!!

they saw Europe's big government, they felt its evil here, they read all of history and they knew the great 20th Century liberals: Hitler Stalin and Mao were on the horizon. That is why the gave us freedom from big liberal government no matter what its rationale for taking power from the people.

"The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale".-Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.-Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that bad government results from too much government.-Jefferson

If we had men like the founding fathers running the country we would never have had DOMA, the PA or NDAA. They dealt with it in other ways. We would never have considered DOMA for instance. Local boys would deal with the town homosexual. Likely it would not be by carefully considering their right to marry.

Like it or not, the founding fathers were screaming liberals who left idiots like you behind.

If YOUR party had been in charge, we would still be speaking with a British accent and dithering about whether or not to allow rum on board.
the founding fathers rebelled against an over reaching totalitarian gov and high taxes !! thats the truth weather you like it or not .

The colonists and founders also didn't care too much for the East India Company. A corporation. This wouldn't set too well with you corporation worshipping tea baggers.

Quite presciently, Madison summed up the conservative view of wanting a weak central government when he said that the smaller a government is, such as a state compared to the federal government,

the more likely the opportunity for individual's rights to violated, or taken away, because the smaller state is more likely to have a concentrated majority of likeminded people who can impose their will on a minority.

Conservatives generally want state's rights for the purpose of letting individual states deny rights,

not expand them.

too stupid!! dear, read what you wrote, you said Madison wanted states rights so peoples rights could be violated.

Do you have a quote??

He was speaking against the anti-federalist view.

Yes, I do.

Madison wrote, "The smaller the society the fewer probably will be the distinct parties and interests composing it; the fewer the distinct parties and interests, the more frequently will a majority be found of the same party and the more easily will they concert and execute their plans of oppression."

Such is exactly why conservatives love the idea of power in the hands of the 'smaller societies'. It makes oppression easier.

I believe the founders saw an opportunity to get rid of the British and carve up the country for themselves. Nobody will know for sure but "the founders this" and "the founders that"?
All conjecture. We know for sure that they wanted way less than half the population voting, leaving a small minority of oligarchs. Hey, reason enough for tea baggers to approve of this even though said tea baggers probably wouldn't have qualified to vote in the first place.

We know for sure that they wanted way less than half the population voting,
too stupid!! they wanted less than half doing brain surgery too!! Voting is for smart people, not liberals who cant figure out how to get a picture ID!!

see why we say slow???

even before they saw it in the form of Nazism and liberal communism??

You aren't seriously considering the possibility that liberals actually "think" are you? It's quite clear they simply regurgitate what they're told to from the HuffPo.

The problem they had with European government was autocratic monarchies and their willingness to make colonists pay MORE than their fare share of taxes and duties. It wasn't the size of the government, it was the control the government was trying to exert on them. They didn't envision Hitler, Stalin and Mao, you're just making things up. Their thinking was based on history and governments of the 18th century. Communism and fascism did not exist yet, nor anything closely resembling them. They wanted smaller government, but more in regard to the extent it tried to control the individual and limit their freedom. I don't like out of control federal spending, ever increasing entitlements and constantly increasing descretionary spending, but Jefferson and company had no clue it would or could get this out of hand.
