You do know that "herd immunity" whether it is acquired naturally, or by a vaccine, works the same.

Here is exactly what Fauci said:

And that response is so ignorant that is shows Fauci does not at all know what herd immunity is.
The whole point of herd immunity is that not every one has to get infected in order to end an epidemic.

Fauci can be excused for not applying herd immunity right away, because at first we were only testing the very sick, so looked like it had a very high lethality value.
But we now have done more testing and found 90% of those infected are asymptomatic, which means they were not tested or counted.
And that means covid-19 is about 20 times less lethal than we first thought.
It also means most people are immune inherently, as that is what asymptomatic means.

That means we are VERY close to herd immunity, and can be easily reached with essentially no risk if we deliberately infect volunteers under 38 year of age.
