This is one reason why it's smart to get guns out of the hands of perpetrators of domestic violence. The incidence of death increases exponentially when guns are in homes where domestic violence is perpetrated.
Hi Dhara I would focus on the counseling to address relationship abuse, and addictive/bullying
personality disorders.
The economy in that, is the same therapy and healing process it takes to cut through cycles
and generations of abuse, addiction, mental or physical illness also leads to resolving any number of related social ills stemming from these roots.
By solving the root problem, then a host of other social, psychological, financial and political issues also can be axed at the root.
The hardest selling point? The therapy methods that work the best are FREE.
So these cannot be lobbied and sold through big pharm or PACs.
The natural methods that are most cost effective are basically
competing with interests in making more money off the problems,
including buying influence to promote their agenda through the media.
counseling? relationship advice?
abusers are recidivists. their abuse increases, it doesn't decrease.
you take guns away from abusers first... then worry about "relationship counseling".
Hi jillian I am talking about identifying the disorder BEFORE anyone grabs a gun.
Some of these men start the bullying when they are kids, and the behavior gets worse.
With some people I know personally, looking back, we would have intervened sooner
at the first sign they had this bullying mentality, because later it escalated into criminal incidents
blamed on mood disorders and mental illness.
So there are signs early on, if people know what to look for
and know what kind of help is needed and where to get that kind of support.
Too many families don't know where to get help, or will get their
loved ones punished instead of getting them help if they report it.
(You seem to be talking about the point where confrontation with guns occurs,
and yes I agree the first step is to isolate the guns or shooter as much as possible.
I am talking in general, how to start SCREENING for mental illness or disorders
way in advance -- such as with students and teachers in schools doing peer counseling
to find where the hidden risks are -- so individuals at risk can get specialized help instead of hiding it until they commit visible crimes to bring this to the attention of others.)
Hi Emily, Yo, nobody is going to see a nut in public, unless he acts like one? So, there is no solution, period!

Dear 1stRambo
WRONG More cases have warning signs than not.
More criminal cases are like Jeffrey Daumer, who tortured animals long before he started targeting people. Fewer cases are like Ted Bundy who hid his sickness behind an impressive facade that fooled everyone. it's like Cancer and similar diseases, the cases of getting warning signs or changes that people can recognize increase as people share more knowledge OPENLY (instead of denying these problems exist and getting numb to them).
There was even a partnership project between volunteers against animal abuse and against domestic abuse because of the common pattern. If someone is sick, and dominates others with a sociopathic lack of empathy, it makes sense it would show in more than one area, well in advance.
Problem is people aren't trained to identify and refer those at risk to get help.
So that's why people don't know what to do in order to make sure the person at risk gets the right help before it's too late.
