Eli vs Peyton

In comparing the two brothers, there is no way statistically that Eli is in his brothers league. When you look at yardage thrown, TDs to Ints, QB ratings and four league MVPs, Peyton is a top 5 QB of all time.

But Peyton has always had teams he could not beat. In College, he could not beat Florida. Spurrier got in his head. In the pros, he could not beat New England. Bill B had his number.

For a dozen years, Indianapolis was a favored team to win at the start of the season. Once the playoffs started, the Colts were almost always a top seed and favored to win. Peyton never seemed to come up big.

Eli and the Giants were never favored to win anything. Eli came up big in big games and carried teams that were far from great to two championships. Where Peyton has been an underachiever with the teams he played for, Eli has been an overachiever

Eli also has something Peyton doesn't........Historic wins
Beating an 18-0 team with a last second game winning drive is perhaps the most historic win in all of football
Repeating it against the same team is also historic.

There is no single win in Peytons career where he had a monster drive in a huge game to win. No unbelievable play where he came up big in crunch time.

In the Manning gene pool, Peyton got most of the raw talent. Eli got most of the heart.

You're comparing Gomer (Peyton) to Goober (Eli). I'll take Gomer all day long. Gomer has never had anywhere close to the defensive units that Goober has had over the years.

The proof happened this year. How good, or bad, were the Colts WITHOUT Gomer? They SUCKED. All the same players were there, except for ONE player.

Eli is a good quarterback, a CLUTCH quarterback, BUT the Giants ALWAYS have a good defense. Once the Giants defense got healthy this year, they were DOMINANT. The Colt's defenses over the years have been average, at best.

Peyton Manning is better than Eli Manning. No question about it. Peyton is much more intelligent, and Peyton exudes confidence. I just don't see those same qualities in Eli.

True but you can't expect any qb to go down and expect a team to be just as good ... except the Patriots (11-5)

well said.

I agree.

imho, peyton is a great 'field general' but he isn't a guy you need in your foxhole, Eli is.

dude are you serious? I am a colts fan......but thats not true and in the end, it doesn't really matter does it? you play with the team you HAVE.

The colts had superlative D for several years, no.1 def players of the year in the league twice in 4 years etc.....Dunghy came on board etc etc....

well in 2007 he had Randy Moss so yeah thats way better than Marvin Harrison... and what about defense? New England had waaaaaaaaaaay better defense then Indianapolis over the years they won even though it was defense that won Peyton his one super bowl ring.

Yeah but Brady unlike Manning has always been cool under pressure in the BIG games.Peyton has always stunk up the joint. This is also why Brady has always been better.

Nobody ever accused Indianapolis of having a fearsome defense. But they did have a defense good enough to win 13 to 14 games a year.

Point is that Peyton Manning and his Colts for the most part, underachieved in the playoffs every year. They came in as favorites to win the SB, they tended to be favorites in every game......yet they only reached the SB twice in twelve years in spite of having great teams.

At some point, Peyton could have elevated his game, made the big play, made the winning drive. Eli has done it consistently with no where near the players that Peyton had. I mean David Tyree?

Brady had top 10 defenses in his 2003 and 2004 wins ... the first one in 2001 he shouldn't have even gone because of the tuck rule and won because of ty law. The year he won, Manning had the 21st best defense. In 2007 the colts had the 3rd best defense and the patriots had the 4th best defense but the patriots had Randy Moss. Plus they had been cheating up to that point.

well he's better than anyone Manning has ever had ... and don't forget that the colts never cheated so that made it harder.

lew, harrison and wayne were both class A receivers, he had a class A set of TE's in Pollard and Clarke...Edgerrin was top tier as well.......please. there are reason some make it happen and some no matter the talent can't.

Fran Tarkenton went 3 times, he could never even get close to a win....jim kelly? ok Norwich pushed it left the first time, the 3 afterward?

there are winners and then......

Harrison and Wayne were good with Manning throwing to them. Moss was hall of famer before he had brady throwing to him.

Boy that sure is reaching. Also after Cheater Belechick got caught cheating against the jets, you know the league stepped up and started watching him and the team more closely to see if he was cheating anymore the rest of the year.also that year unlike this year they had an extremely difficult schedule that year when they went undefeated till the superbowl.again Brady never choked and made boneheaded plays in big games and was able to beat hall of fame quarterbacks when he was the underdog.Like Rightwinger said earlier,Brady never had an exceeltn running back to take the pressure off him except a couple years with Corey Dillon thats it.Manning could only beat Rex Grossman when he was favored. He could not beat a good quarterback in Drew Brees when he was they were underdogs and by that time when they faced the bears and later the saints, the colts DID have a very good defense that Dungy built.so its really a case closed that Brady is the better quarterback.

Until Eli gets more consistent at making the big play year in and out and turns the ball over less during the regular season, Peyton is much closer to making the Hall of Fame then Eli.

Eli also got a running game and a defense that isn't a punch line. Some of that is Peyton's fault; you pay a guy a large % of your payroll and it disqualifies you from surrounding him with top shelf talent. Can't blame Peyton for wanting what he earned though.

The Colts went from a superbowl contender to having the worst record in football...in one season. The big difference was no P. Manning.

I'm a giants fan, but Eli's not as good as Peyton. Eli's awesome in his own right-and should make the hall of fame. But he's not as good as Peyton.

Also it's unfair to compare upsets in the playoffs because the Giants squeaked into the playoffs both years they won the superbowl with Eli. Peyton never gets the chance to have upsets...usually because his team is better before the game.

They won 2 this year without Peyton. 2 as in "two".

As a giants fan, I never claimed Eli was better than Peyton. Just that in this aspect of his game he has been more successful.

Archie Manning was probably bette rthan both of his sons.

Finished 3rd in the 1970 Heisman Trophy behind Jim Plunkett and Joe Theismann (who should have won)

I rank QB's by Super Bowl wins.

Numbers don't mean a damn thing, b/c no one mentions them until someone breaks them.

Eli has 2 rings his brother has one. Eli is twice the QB his brother is.

But it was Plunkett who got the two rings
