Unemployment is a major issue in most developed economies today

It is an issue in the U.S. because Republicans choose to use high black unemployment, which skews the numbers, as a whipping boy.

Despite Bush and Republicans outsourcing 8 million low wage, unskilled jobs, 145 million Americans are employed, near the most in U.S. history.

While 3.4 million skilled jobs are available in the U.S. and going begging.

The percentage of Americans working has dropped to the lowest rate in 30 years under this President. The unemployment rate for blacks in the US is double that of whites...almost exactly what it was BEFORE the recession. You really are one of the more ignorant posters on this board right now...and that's saying something!

My own R senator brags about what he has accomplished. The last thing he posted on FB was that he voted in favor of naming a bridge.

Actually the recession killed 8 million jobs in 2008 and 2009...a recession brought on by policies supported by both Democrats AND Republicans.

Barack Obama came into office with an unemployment rate of 7.8%...it only went to 10.7% AFTER his ill conceived stimulus plan...and five years later and over a TRILLION dollars in stimulus spending and non-stop quantitative easing it's STILL at 7.4%...and the only reason it's THAT good is that so many people have quit even looking for work that they've dropped out of the unemployment number. THAT is what this President has done on the jobs front!

Here's a hint for ya', Dogman...when the Obama Administration invented the whole "jobs created or saved"...it was like sending up Roman candles to announce that they HADN'T created anywhere near the jobs they promised they would. You only make up statistics like that one when you want to HIDE how bad the real numbers are for how many jobs you're created!

Incorrect. Unemployment is high in the US for the same reasons it is in other countries: globalization, and increasing automation of work.

Despite Bush and Republicans outsourcing 8 million low wage, unskilled jobs, 145 million Americans are employed, near the most in U.S. history.

Also inaccurate. The workforce participation rate has been in a general decline in recent years, and even an official unemployment rate of 7 + % is high by historic standards. As for outsourcing, this has been going on for some time, under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Many, many millions of jobs have been shipped overseas, and more ominously these are increasingly higher skilled jobs, such as softwear development, and other white collar jobs. These issues have become political issues that no one wants to touch, as the resolution of them will mean drastic social change.

While 3.4 million skilled jobs are available in the U.S. and going begging.

Even if this is accurate, it means little. There is always a certain amount of turnover and mis-match in the labour force, and in one as large as the US, these figures are not significant.
