COVID deaths, world wide, are almost entirely a function of three things.

1. The first most important is age and risk factors. America led, as one of the top nations in keeping folks alive into old age, and folks with health problems alive before the pandemic. IOW, like a forest filled with old brush before a forest fire, it was like kindling waiting for a burn.

2. The second is BMI, body mass index. How unhealthy people are, in relation to their diet and exercise. Yep, fat Americans. Very few nations eat worse, and exercise less.

3 . . . and lastly, access to health care. Americans, due to how we pay for heath-care, have a culture of waiting till we are at death's door to seek medical attention.

It had not a damn thing to do with any particular government or politician. Nor did it have to do with any "mitigation" strategies.

Governments and politicians, have about as much control over this, as they do the climate.

The way you stop an epidemic is you quarantine the sick, but you can't stop a pandemic by quarantining the healthy, that's insane and authoritarian. Never in the history of the world has that ever worked.

None of it, nor politics, would have made a damn worth's of difference. There isn't any difference in excess death rates in red states or blue states, and the excess death rates between Trump's admin and Biden's admin, is statistically insignificant.
