First Song you remember from childhood

"Side by Side" is a popular song with lyrics by Gus Kahn and music by Harry M. Woods written in 1927, now considered a standard.

Oh, we ain't got a barrel of money,
Maybe we're ragged and funny;
But we'll travel along, singin' a song,
Side by side.

Don't know what's comin' tomorrow,
Maybe it's trouble and sorrow;
But we'll travel the road, sharin' our load,
Side by Side

Through all kinds of weather,
What if the sky should fall;
Just as long as we're together,
It doesn't matter,
Doesn't matter at all.

When they've all had their quarrels and parted,
We'll be the same as we started;
Just travelin' along, singin' a song,
Side by Side.

My parents had this on an old 78 record. It was old stuff even then, when I was just a little kid. It's the first song I remember listening to and singing along with. It's also been recorded by Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Ray Charles, and others. This is something I listened to before I was even old enough for pop music.

I remember that one too.

First music I remember?

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mVW8tgGY_w]Für Elise (Piano version) - YouTube[/ame]

My mother used to play it on an old out-of-tune piano that came with the old farmhouse we rented long before we had (or anyone had, really) TVs.

This was around '53 or maybe '54.

My two oldest siblings are 10 and 12 years older then me. Simon & garfunkel and the Beatles played constantly, but to be honest, the first song I remember was

These boots were made for walking by Nancy Sinatra

My mom used to sing this to me.

Have been searching youtube for this song for a long time (finally found it). Remember this one from when I was very young also.

I think anyone who learned classical piano learned this song. It's universal. Lol

The first song I remember was "please be quiet" played by my kindergarten teacher. Lol. C E G C. If we were good we got to play it. Yay. Lol

I 'memba my mom bangin' out this tune on the piano way back when I was still diapers...

'course, she was usually in a tattered housecoat, not a sequined evening gown...

and it was on an old out-of-tune upright, not a grand...

"I See the Moon"
"Friar Jackques"
and "Ki Yi Yippie Yippie Yay".

My mom sang them to us every night at bedtime.

The first records I played were Johnny Cash and the Mamas and the Papas, Englebert Humperdinck (!) and some classical albums...I can still see the albums in my mind...Oh and the Adventurers "Walk Don't Run"...I had that on a 45.

Our version was a little different but that is the song I think my mom sang to us...

I have three songs from my childhood that are very dear to me because they were the favorites of people who I loved. My Mom liked to sing 16 Tons, and I would join in and get tickled from trying to make our voices go real low. My Grandma and I loved to belt out Chattanooga Choo Choo together. When my Grandpa would sing Paper Doll to me, and I would just look at him with absolute adoration.:)

My Mom's:

My mum made up her own words to this, which she sang to me as I was falling asleep. (I was 39 at the time). Joke!

I can't remember the first song I heard, but this one used to be on all the time when I was a kid, so its one of the first I thought of when I saw this thread:

They are Australian, too.

First tune I remember was in a music book when I was 2 or 3...."never smile at a crocodile" and another one was "pony boy" I got with my pony boy cap guns/holsters. First tune on the radio was Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock". :)

It was either :
