Victor pulled the plug on the Bride of Frankenstein.

Frankenstein, or the The Modern Prometheus, is a must-read. It explores the need for ethics in scientific application. It's especially relevant to today's applications of bio-engineering, cloning, bio-machinery, etc.. Right there in the title is the Greek titan Prometheus who gave fire (science) to the humans. Zeus punished Prometheus for doing so, and when you consider the constant threat of nuclear war and/or the possible extinction of naturally evolved genetics, you can see Zeus' point.

The book also weaves in Biblical themes like The Garden of Eden and the banishment of Adam and Eve. The romantic poets were great at utilizing pagan and Christian mythology and making those ancient archetypes relevant without endorsing any brand of organized religion.

His reasoning was that the Monster and his Bride would then go on to create a whole race of monsters...

Which was dubious science, really. But given the reasoning of making creatures out of corpses and animating them with electricity was kind of silly, even at the time, let's take it at face value.

Victor probably made the right call.

Yeah. Now we have scientists who think they can do a better job than mother nature.

The only problem with that is... Should they?

Messing around with the genes of vegetation is bad enough. Without proper testing how do they know that the alteration isn't something that most people will be allergic too?

Then they want to mess around with the DNA of animals and who knows what they might create? Much less if we're ready for it...
