Presidential Campaign Front-Runners Lack Grassroots Support - Yahoo News
The 2016 presidential campaign is off to a deep-pocketed start, but the front-runners are fund-raising big from Wall Street rather than Main Street.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a Democrat, are leading the fund-raising race overall, with Bush raising $114 million and Clinton $63 million, according to documents filed with the Federal Elections Commission. However, both campaigns rank poorly in small campaign donations of $200 or less, which are seen as a way to gauge grassroots popular support.
For Clinton, only 19 percent of her campaign contributions are made up of small donations, with $47 million raised so far for her own campaign. Bush comes in last with the lowest amount of small campaign contributions at only 3 percent—his campaign has raised $11 million thus far.
