Game Changer: Liquid Metal Battery

Every few months a major battery "breakthrough" is announced.
The group making the announcement gets $300,000 in research grants.

Nothing ever comes of it....
Cycle repeats
In this case..once enough suckers are invested, Gates will dump his stocks and make millions

Post #2's claim is not supported by any published examples. Post #3's cynical reply is based on IQ, so won't be arguing the science involved in front of USMB readers.

Does it store electricity? If so, where does electricity come from?
This is an interesting question. It is promoted as being meant to store renewable energy, but the way I understand things, it could come from fossil fuel, solar, wind, water wheel, or any source.

Sounds like this battery is special because the materials are common and cheap, which opens the door to larger scale storage.

It still comes down to how the electricity is generated. So far it still requires mostly fossil fuel and nuke.

One of the big factors in making solar power not a viable solution is that it is not controllable. ie the Sun doesn't shine at least half the time, (night), if not more, (clouds, storms).

Storing power, from sunny times for other times, is expensive, loses energy, generally has serious environmental issues.

IN theory, a massive advance in battery tech, could/should make solar energy more viable.

That said, "MOLTEN SALTS" sounds a little alarming. But maybe.

And I want to be clear. If Bill Gates wants to put his money into trying to advance a technology that he is emotionally invested in,

I fully support that. It is his money.

You probably don't want to be around these things when they get old and the bad stuff leaks out. It ain't your father's flashlight battery.

Bottom line is that it is totally unnecessary and part of an elaborate control ruse.
Democrats are America’s greatest threat.

Alternative energy is just not ready to take over normal energy production.

Technology could change to make it so. The danger is that political motivated assholes force a switch to a technology that is less good, leading to a major lose of quality of life for the people of the world.
