One of four gubernatorial candidates introduced to California Republicans recently is a registered sex offender who spent more than a decade in state prison, convicted of crimes including voluntary manslaughter and assault with intent to commit rape.

If the GOP wants to know their future, look to California. They have no future. Their policies of attacking countries that don't do exactly what the US would like, and reimposing the 1950s sexual culture, is a go-nowhere proposition.

All they have now are middle-aged and elderly whites, with their racial and ethnic anxieties and animosities. But they won't have them forever.

But he denied he was a homosexual and refused GOP demands that he resign. Hinson won reelection in a three-way race, with 39 percent of the vote. But three months later, he was arrested on charges of attempted oral sodomy in the restroom of a House office building. He resigned his seat on April 13, 1981.
