GOP refuses to pass clean debt-ceiling increase

Why do you continue to lie about default? Are you just trolling now?

if we don't raise the debt ceiling by mid-October, we will default on the debt.

This is a fact, deal with it.

No it isn't.
The Government brings in enough to pay the debt each month.
We are not going to default.

That's not true. In the past we had some reserve but now we are down to relatively little money. We will default.

So when will the government reach its $16.699 trillion borrowing limit?

Technically, we've already reached the limit! But the government won't actually run out of money to pay its bills until some time after Oct. 17.

The U.S. government hit the $16.699 trillion borrowing limit back on May 19. Since then, the Treasury Department has taken a slew of “extraordinary measures” — such as tapping exchange-rate funds — to raise an extra $303 billion and ensure the government has enough cash to meet all its obligations, from paying bondholders to Social Security checks.

By Oct. 17, however, the Treasury Department will run out of "extraordinary measures." The government will no longer have enough cash on hand to meet all of its coming financial obligations, and it won't be able to borrow or scrounge up any more money.

"We estimate that, at [Oct. 17], Treasury would have only approximately $30 billion to meet our country's commitments," said Treasury Secretary Jack Lew in a recent letter to Congress. "This amount would be far short of net expenditures on certain days, which can be as high as $60 billion."

Absolutely everything you need to know about the debt ceiling

If we default, it will be because Obama want to continue to punish the American people; to coerse his way - he does not negotiate. The man thinks he is a king.
10% of what we bring in will servise the debt - get real. Peach is correct!

i wonder why israel is so scared of the president NEGOTIATING some peaceful resolution with iran ........... could it be that people who scream about "negotiations" really do not want them?

So let me see if I understand the Liberal Talking points..

The Republicans in the House have passed 30+ bills dealing with the budget in the past year.

The Republicans in the House have passed bills to fund every part of the Government except Obama-care.

The Republicans in the House have offered to sit down and talk to the Democrats in the Senate and Oval office on funding Obama-care if the mandatory enrollment for the average American citizen was rolled back one year to match the roll back Obama gave the Unions and Businesses without consulting Congress ( A violation of the law as it was written ).

The Democrats in the Senate and Oval office have refused to even vote on and have promised to veto every bill and refused to sit down and discuss the issues.

And yet it is the Republicans who are the Terrorists, Hostage Takers, Unpatriotic, and to blame for the Government Shut Down.

Oh what a bizarre world we live in.

Here is another question...

What is it with Obama calling people who disagree with him "Unpatriotic"?

He called President Bush Unpatriotic and now he is calling Speaker Boehner "unpatriotic".

Why is the press allowing him to do that without questioning him on it?

We have to make cuts in spending before we borrow more.
We are in this situation because of Bush and Obamas spending.

This also proves that we can not have another big Government Program called the Affordable Health Care Act which is not affordable.

funny how we could fund 2 worthless wars , but can not pay for health benefits ........

funny how bush could spend 600 billion for medicare part D ...... that mostly benefited pharmaceutical companies

funny how everyone knows we could raise another 600 billion dollars in revenue , but boehner refuses to negotiate the sweet and special deals on oil , banks , and the wealthy

it is only when we want to spend money to HELP the poor that republiclowns get angry and patriotic

We already have the Affordable Healthcare Act and it is here to stay. We've needed it for a long time. It isn't negotiable.

The voters are blaming the House Republicans for the shutdown, imagine what they will do when Republicans default. Oh well, maybe the moderates will step up and do the right thing for a change.

We have never spent money "helping the poor." If that were the case there would be no poor people in this country, as we have spent many trillions of dollars over the last 40 years allegedly helping them. Programs aimed at poor people are designed to ensnare poor people and keep them dependent. Look at the new "subsidies" for Obamacare: if you have an opportunity for a raise you wont take it because the loss of subsidy will cost more than the raise.

Boehner: U.S. Republicans will not pass 'clean' debt-limit increase - Yahoo Finance

Boehner has now stated that he and the GOP will hold the debt-ceiling increase, and indeed the financial health of the USA & the World, hostage to their budget cuts.

This makes me very sad. I thought they were smarter than this. I thought they were more Patriotic than this.

A partial govt. shutdown in order to get budget consessions is one thing, but threatening a debt default is a whole different creature.

This is a very dangerous path the GOP is taking. :(

Unfortunately, Congress consistently brings the government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility -- two things that set us apart from much of the world."

Ronald Reagan, 1968

Every year, they have to raise the debt ceiling and every year I ask the same question. Care to take a stab and answering it?

If we're going to raise it every year, why have a debt ceiling?
So Obama can pull out his trite little box of mean things to say that confuse people while he's happy talk lying his butt off about Republicans saying that we don't care about people, when he's the one that wants to force taxpayers into the slavery of providing luxuries for anyone Obama wants to reward. Since Republicans want people to enjoy their own money, just like the founders did, Obama feels he is compelled to continue lying and hating Republicans until he wins with his losing schema of letting the COMMUNITY CONTROL SOCIETY, which is precisely what we fought against in the Revolutionary War since most communities have a pyramid schema government with a kingpin at the top who tells everybody else how the cow ate the cabbage.

.

"WE", like an Obama hellcare navigator?

Obamacare 'Navigators' Will Get $58 For Every Individual They Sign Up

.

What this means is that some states will have federal marketplaces, and others will have their own locally developed marketplaces for employers and patients. And because understanding the workings of this system and trying to identify and purchase a health insurance product is so complicated, the government is paying “navigators” to guide the uninsured through the maze being constructed to make health insurance more accessible. In California, for example, $673 million in federal money will be utilized to deploy 21,000 navigators to sign up people for the exchange. Reports indicate that each navigator will receive $58 for every person signed up

No we can't raise another 600 billion unless more than half of the country starts paying more in taxes.
We don't have the money to spend on anything unless we make cuts all across the board.
The big Entitlements need to reformed and congress needs to stop making raises in their pay checks plus all the other goodies that they get.

If we reform the Big Entitlement spending the money would be there for the poor.

The only one who is talking about default is the President.

No he didn't.

He said that the United States is hurtling toward a default because of the White House's refusal to negotiate on a debt ceiling increase.

The President is saying that the GOP wants to default.
That is not true.

Semantics.. Ok, Boehner already knows the voters are blaming him for the shutdown. Does it make sense for him to continue on this path?

We need the moderates to step up and stop him and the teaparty here.

No if we just keep borrowing without bigger cuts we will default.

The Democrats are in denial about this and they are also in denial about how the new Health Care is harming people and stooping the growth of this nation.

Anyone who has actually paid attention knows that it Obama and the Democrats who are at fault.

Raise taxes. AHA is here to stay. We need it, it's good for individuals, good for business, good for Seniors and lots of others who are suffering.
