Zimmerman was a story because of a new ‘stand your ground’ law and the fact that we, as a nation, are going through a gun debate at the moment. The unique set of circumstances and the age of Martin played a perfect story for the media to trump up. A little race slid into it and they had a goldmine to plunder.

The situation more than anything put it on the stage, the race aspect was just something that the media threw in, not the reason that the story headlined.
