Harris's newly released campaign promises are comprised of:

  • Taking on grocery price gouging
  • $6,000 new child tax credit
  • Construction of 3 million housing units over the next four years
  • $25,000 assistance for first time home buyers
There are a lot of problems with these proposals. First, there is no price gouging going on among grocers. Most people can agree on obvious gouging when they see it. A hurricane hits and the local gas stations start charging $20 a gallon for gas, few would argue this isn't gouging. That is not what has happened with groceries. The price of everything, from groceries to building supplies to transportation costs, have risen in recent years due to monetary inflation. Kroger, for instance, saw only 2.3% in identical sales growth over the prior years. Plenty of states have gouging laws on the books and there are currently no lawsuits going on with grocers or food suppliers.

The construction of 3 million housing units is never going to happen. Neither Harris nor Congress has any way of achieving this outside of building incentives with federal subsidies, which only further exasperate government spending, and is still unlikely to achieve the goal and where exactly are these homes to be built? Good luck getting around the local red tape and NIMBYism. Furthermore, the government is the least productive entity. The Biden administration put $7.5 billion towards creating 500,000 new EV charging stations around the country. Three years later, a total of eight have been built.

Anyone with a basic understanding of economics can tell you that the $25,000 assistance proposal will merely raise home prices, thus reversing the improvement we've seen on declining inflation and much like the $6,000 child tax credit she is promising (Vance proposed $5,000), will only further add to our federal expenditures, running up the national debt, and sending us back towards an inflationary cycle.

The biggest issue facing this country is government spending and neither candidate is addressing this problem. Out of control government spending for years was one of the primary drivers of our recent inflationary cycle and both campaigns are only promising more of the same. They are not taking this issue seriously. Whoever Harris's economic advisors are should be fired.

Another problem with Kamala's Load of Cat Poo, is the fact that she and Sleepy Joe are already in power. There is no reason not to start on these schemes right away, instead of waiting until after the election.
Unless the reason why she isn't starting on them is that they are just Lies that she has no intent to implement

You may be right. What's next, promising to build a wall all across the southern border and getting Mexico to pay for it?

People sent in money to MAGA scam groups on that.

Promises are never written in stone. Demanding so gave the nation Bill Clinton over GHW Bush.

The national debt has been manageable for decades back when doom Sayers told us we would crash as a society if we didn't cut everything. No President has the power alone to do what she is saying she'd like to do. Joe Biden promised infrastructure just as Trump did. One delivered the other guy (supposed great builder), made it out to be a joke.

Your opinion " They are not taking this issue seriously. Whoever Harris's economic advisors are should be fired." is noted. But we've seen this type of alarmism before.

What a weird response and analysis. Very weird. Do you know how government work? Biden is President and Kamala is not. When she is President she can try and do the things she is saying se wants to do.

You posted this 11 years ago. 11 years ago.

"Who said it isn't working? Austerity is supposed to keep the shit storm from getting worse. Here is the problem in the UK and most of the western world. Our economies have been built on piling debt upon debt upon debt. Well, guess what. Eventually, the piper has to be paid. If you want the big screen TV and the new car and the $200 cell phone you have to pay for it. If you Brits want your thieving Socialist welfare state you have to pay for it. You haven't been and that's the problem. Now you're screwed. The point of austerity is to stop the frivolous spending so that you can get your finances back on track and eventually have a growing, prosperous economy. It's either that or you end up bankrupt like Greece. Pick your poison because your nation is built on a house of cards right now and likely will be for several more years."

We don't have to try austerity since the UK has for us. It's a total flop.

You've asked a few times "So how much debt is too much?

In 2016, I remembered that You bragged about how much you supported Mulvaney (OMB). So I went back:
(one thing in his favor, he didn't stay on the Trump will not be indicted train)

I believe Biden's "Build Back Better" his infrastructure deal were all good for the nation. You gotta pay to play. We can disagree on how much and what the future repercussions or benefits will be, but so far the crystal balls of the nay sayers have proven to be made of scuffed up plastic and not glass.

During competing campaigns, pie in the sky is keeping it simple' and that's what voters hear!

It just happens to be a key to Trump's success too.

However, in both cases, easily and quickly proven lies can't be allowed.

Kamala is proving that among her other negative attributes, she is an economic imbecile.

She could invoke the 25th Amendment if Joe balked on any of her proposals, but she won't because she know it will never get through this Congress or the next.
