The “authoritarian” president “interfered with an investigation involving national security,” writes Laurence Tribe.

A top Harvard constitutional law professor is calling for an impeachment investigation into Donald Trump for obstruction of justice, branding the president’s firing of FBI Director James Comey as an “obvious effort to interfere with a probe involving national security.”

To “wait for the results of the multiple investigations underway is to risk tying our nation’s fate to the whims of an authoritarian leader,” Professor Laurence Tribe wrote in an opinion piece in The Washington Post on Saturday. Tribe added that Trump’s conduct “strongly suggests that he poses a danger to our system of government.”

After Comey’s firing last week, Tribe joined the legal advisory board of Impeach Trump Now, a campaign pushing for an impeachment probe into the president.

“It is now up to Congress to save the Constitution by initiating impeachment proceedings,” Tribe said in a statement Friday when he joined the board. “Trump can’t say ‘You’re fired’ to the House of Representatives.”

Tribe wrote in the Post that “ample reasons existed to worry about this president, and to ponder the extraordinary remedy of impeachment even before the Comey firing.” He cited Trump’s apparent “brazen defiance” of the foreign emoluments clause of the Constitution, which bars a president from receiving foreign funds.

The real danger is the Republicans looking at this as their one and only opportunity to make themselves the permanent ruling party. Don't kid yourself there are a number of them who would jump at the chance to do away with Constitutional government as long as their party is the new defacto single party rule. This is the danger in electing someone like orange-bitchface, he wouldn't hesitate to do it and if enough of them see the future is bleak because of bad demographics for Republicans it isn't out of the realm.

There are a few Republicans like McCain and the other guy that speak out very weakly on these things but who else? Even Rand Paul is going along with this bullshit charade.

Sounds like a person I would wanna get to know and trust, (not). Who in their right mind would consider a corporation's rights over and above the rights of an individual since they both have a status of "personhood". The only reason corporations received the title of "personhood" is so matters at law could be determined when one of the parties damages the other and a case must be determined in a court of law. People like this apparently believe more with the communist herd mentality that a corporate entity has more rights than a private individual. He's a loser!

In 2004, Tribe acknowledged having plagiarized several specific phrases and a sentence in his 1985 book, God Save this Honorable Court, to a 1974 book by Henry Abraham.[20][21] After an investigation, Tribe was reprimanded by Harvard for "a significant lapse in proper academic practice," but the investigation concluded that Tribe's error was unintentional.[22]

Since the mid-1990s, Tribe has represented a number of corporations advocating for their free speech rights and constitutional personhood.[23] Tribe represented General Electric in its defense against its liability under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act ("Superfund"), in which GE and Tribe unsuccessfully argued that the act unconstitutionally violated General Electric's due process rights

Hillary won't run again and Bernie has a lot of support. Your opinion of him isn't of consequence, had he run he would have won. Demographics are soon to overtake Republicans nationally and their ability to win national elections is eroding quick. Trump squeaked by and lost by 3 million votes among all voters.

Has the good professor weighed in on if that evil bulldyke should have been indicted for her email scandal? I'm guessing he didn't see anything suspicious even after what Comey said

Here are highlights of what Comey said:

  • “Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”
  • Clinton’s emails included seven message chains with information classified as top secret.
  • “None of these emails should have been on any kind of unclassified system.”
  • “The security culture of the State Department …was generally lacking in the kind of care for classified information found elsewhere in the government.”
  • Comey acknowledged that the FBI did not normally make public its recommendations to prosecutors as to whether to bring criminal charges. He added: “In this case, given the importance of the matter, I think unusual transparency is in order.”
  • “Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”
  • “I know there will be intense public debate in the wake of this recommendation, as there was throughout this investigation.”

I agree. It's funny as hell.

To all the Trump haters, let me see if I understand all of this. One man says that Trump should be impeached and that makes the news. I suppose there is something about this man that makes his opinion more valuable than the opinions of all other men and woman in this great country. However, being the simple and humble man I am I cannot understand what it is.

But, assuming arguendo that this Hahvahd professor possesses the most brilliant and informed mind on the planet, is it not at least possible that his opinion is influenced by his political beliefs? Nah, can't be. Everyone knows that all college professors are honest, unbiased conservatives.

As for me, I know the law and I know there are no grounds for impeachment. I also know that my opinion is shared by many other legal professionals. Those who quote one opinion while ignoring others are simply desperate to convince themselves that what they believe is true. It's more about ego than it is about truth.
