How's that Civil War going?
We beat the democrats back in 1865, liberals keep fighting it.......now all they have is namecalling to label people racist.

Ahh, in your mind the liberals were the ones who owned the slaves...gotcha. :cuckoo:

Most people in the old south couldn't afford slaves. Christ, most couldn't afford shoes. The elite landed aristocracy - those who wanted to transplant Old Country Eurpoean caste systems - had slaves. Real liberals, you know!

FYI: One out of every four families in the old South kept people in bondage.

How is that $500 million for Solyndra going? Oh - sorry, that's right - you don't want to talk about that.

Really? He tried to invest in new industry because--whether you believe in science or not--we will run out of fossil fuels at some point in the future. Renewable resources such as wind and solar and nuke (which President Obama opposes by the way) will be what we have to develop. Unless you'd like to import solar panels from China while, at the same time, paying $120+ a barrel for crude? Other developed nations have

Just like a baby has to crawl before he can walk and of course fall down...we will have money pits like this. New industry gets off the ground in the present day and age only with the help of the government that incubates them

Politically it went to people who supported the President. When Halliburton received no-bid contracts from the federal government while their CEO was the VP...we had a company getting favorable treatment from an adminstration that was friendly to them. What Obama did was not invented in 2008.

Full disclosure--Halliburton was big in Kosovo/Bosnia too.

What would be wonderful is if the board could remember threads like this one when they call the President--the man you hate and agree with on nothing--divisive. People like you are seeking to divide the nation, not him.

And, of course, when we have a recession, 10% unemployment AND a debt of over 10K at the time....THAT is the time to "try new things".

Jeez...you guys are really in the fog.

Full disclosure...northern families kept persons in Indentured Bondage as well. Hardly the same but very close in principle. However calling plantation owners "liberal" is straight from crazy koo-koo land.

You've made a minor point. However, you've reduce it to a matter of degrees. When we started going into space, a whole bunch of guys just like you were saying that we shouldn't be doing that while we had a war going on in Vietnam. Could you imagine if we hadn't gone...and no we wouldn't have "gotten around to it".

They were expensive. About twcie that of a good horse. Single families did own some and by and large those slaves were treated much better than those owned by Plantations. By 1860 most slaves were owned by plantations.

The 1860 Census and Slavery in the United States | Suite101

"Statistically, 4.8% of all Southern whites owned slaves. When factored by the entire population, 1.4% of all United States whites were slave owners. The Gone With the Wind notion that most Southerners owned large numbers of slaves and lived in huge plantations is a myth."
