Deportation was never taken seriously and was completely shelved after the failed attempted invasion of Britain, again the genocide began with the rear actions of the Einsatzgruppen in 1939. Due to the psychological trauma which came to the Nazi death squads as a result of murdering hundreds of thousands of civilian men, women, and children by rifle and hanging in cold blood the Nazi high command demanded a less hands on and efficient approach and that is when the first extermination camps started coming online, but the genocide started much earlier.
