House Votes To Overturn Obama Rule Restricting Gun Sales To the Severely Mentally Ill

Will laws keep guns from criminals?
Hope you are well.
More evidence the NRA is a terrorist organization, and the fools who posted #2 & #3 above who enable the NRA to put profit over the people.
statists look for any reason to take away ones liberties.

Should criminals have guns?
Should children have guns?

It will keep some guns from some criminals. No law is 100%.

How about we apply the gun laws that snowflakes seek and apply those laws to Hollywood films about gun violence?

No high capacity magazines. No assault rifles.

Let's apply every restriction on gun ownship and use advocated by snowflakes to films. They should lead by example.

It seems a little full of shit for Hollywood snowflakes to preach against guns, yet make millions off of stylizing gun violence and making it "cool".

US gun laws: House votes to loosen background checks rules - BBC News

The US House of Representatives has voted to scrap regulations that require background checks for people purchasing guns with mental health issues.
...
The background-check rules were introduced to provide information on the gun-buying history of people receiving benefits for mental disability.

Way to go... So now you have to buy more guns to defend yourself against the nutjobs you sold guns to before...

No right is unrestricted, why is it the NRA and their supporters think that the 2nd Amendment should have no restrictions?

Wrong rule.
Should elderly Americans have guns?
Actually they are a high risk group for predation due to their age and frailties. Consequently, they should always be armed.

Should criminals have guns?
Should children have guns?

This is seriously fucked up.

House Votes To Overturn Obama Rule Restricting Gun Sales To the Severely Mentally Ill

According to NPR's Susan Davis, the measure being blocked from implementation would have required the Social Security Administration to send records of some beneficiaries with severe mental disabilities to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System. About 75,000 people found mentally incapable of managing their financial affairs would have been affected.

The National Rifle Association had pushed for the repeal, and Republicans argued it infringed upon Second Amendment rights by denying due process.

Supporters of the rule argued it was designed to stop mentally ill persons from getting firearms.

"The House charged ahead with an extreme, hastily written, one-sided measure that would make the American people less safe," Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-Conn., said, according to The Hill. Esty represents Newtown, Conn., where a mentally ill man shot and killed 20 six- and seven-year-olds and six adults.

The problem is the SSA made the definition far to broad. Even the ACLU, no staunch defender of the 2nd amendment, opposed the rule.

Not being able to handle one's own finances as you get older does not mean the person is incompetent. For that a judge has to decide.

Apparently with regard to "the law", not being able to handle one's own finances as you get older means the person is incompetent regarding handling one's own finances. But "the law" has decided that has nothing to do with handling firearms as one gets older.

Amazing. People are arguing that mentally ill folks should be allowed to own guns.

On its face, I think two things. One is err on the side of the Constitution. Second is mental illness should be a basis for further vetting on gun ownership.

No one is saying that. But you certainly are lying about it, thread disrupting lying asshat snowflake.

Then mentally adjudicate the person to be incompetent. At that point due process has been satisfied, and their 2nd amendment rights can be impacted.

I'm not arguing either way, just saying, that's the call that has been made. This system has no compunctions around taking advantage of seniors economically.
