What an antiquated method of sharing in college sports revenue!
I have no problem with athletes that generate revenues that support lesser revenue generating sports getting some share.
So why not be more sophisticated and have each school create a corporation with the athletes as shareholders.
Each athlete joining the corporation gets equity based on sport, % of revenue sport generates, and then the position the athlete plays if higher skill sets required, i.e. quarterback vs offensive lineman.
The school corporation then gets a share of the revenue generated by the sports..LESS the subsidizing of the lesser sports that don't generate break even or more revenue.

In reverse then the corporation would ALSO share in the athlete's professional revenue as the athlete would never had professional revenue opportunities. As a result the school's athletic corporation would have additional revenue from successful pro athletes, thus allowing further lessening of successful revenue to subsidize the lesser sports.

Athletes as shareholders would be for life. As a result any dividends generated would be shared just as an profit making corporation.
In addition being a for profit the athlete corporation would be paying taxes even better!!!
