Sure, you do. If you are a public figure and receive so many e-mails it required a staff to go through it all. In this case that staff had an outside firm periodically purge the e-mails. That firm forgot. Did so when they realized their mistake. Not realizing those documents where under subpoena.

This is not my explanation. But the explanation of the guy who did the purge when being deposed.

You are right you don't. That doesn't mean you did it with the purpose of destroying evidence. That happened as a security precaution when they updated their medium. This was before any subpoena was issued.

You undoubtably are highly dubious about those explanations. Maybe the FBI is too, I don't know. The point is that in order to convict, the government has to show beyond a reasonable doubt those statements are lies. My guess is that they can't do that, and so didn't indict.

Let’s talk a second about an analogy.

Let’s say some dickbag decides to rob a local pharmacy. He gets a gun. He gets a mask. He goes to the pharmacy. He points the gun at the pharmacist behind the counter and demands the contents of the cash register. The pharmacist complies.

Maybe sometime down the road the cops make an arrest of the dickbag. BUT between the time of the robbery and the time of the arrest, common sense will tell us all that the dickbag is guilty of the crime of robbery.

And dickbag refuses a plea offer and goes to trial. Between the moment of the robbery and the moment he is convicted, he is still guilty of that felony.

What he is not (until the conviction) is “presumed” to be guilty in the eyes of the law.

Whether Hunter is guilty of his fucking tax crimes (as alleged) is not yet established via a trial. So, in the eyes of the law, he is presumed innocent. But he might very well (in reality) be as guilty as fuck.

Hunter Biden has not even had his day(s) in court and some people demand he be sentenced. We all know that's not how it works.

We can only hope Trump will be treated like Hunter Biden, and have to stand trial for his alleged crimes, with a jury of 12 coming to the verdict of guilty or not guilty.

An actual trial like Hunter.

Trump pardoning himself, or having his DOJ drop the federal cases before trial would be an injustice and abuse of power.

You would think an innocent man would want the trial asap, instead of stalling and delaying it, hoping he becomes president so he could make it go away, without trial of being guilty or not guilty....

That's a legal principle. It doesn't require everyone to suspend common sense, and you can have whatever opinion you want about someone's guilt or innocence.
